Research collaborations and partnerships with universities in the vicinity of all global AT&S locations represent an important part of the corporate strategy to retain young talents at an early stage and at the same time to build up important basic knowledge in the field of microelectronics. By signing an agreement with the Vidya Vikas Institute of Engineering Technology and Educational Trust (VVIET) in Mysuru, India, AT&S is taking an important step towards improving the training of prospective engineers and teachers at one of the most important universities in the Indian state of Karnataka. The collaboration aims to develop a curriculum that is tailored to the requirements of printed circuit board manufacturers.
AT&S India works closely with the VVIET and will impart relevant content from the field of microelectronics and manufacturing technologies to students. The students can acquire the skills and knowledge that are necessary for the development of mature production processes. The cooperation includes certification by the two Indian training programs Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI) and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
The AT&S initiative will further improve the skills of undergraduate and graduate students in the fields of electrical engineering, electronics, and mechanical engineering and thus facilitate their entry into the microelectronics industry. At the same time, the pool of available talents for the company location in Karnataka is being expanded. “This is a milestone for the academic landscape and engineering students in the Mysuru region. We will for the first time include circuit board manufacturing in our curriculum. VVIET students will have the opportunity to do internships at AT&S India’s world-class manufacturing facilities in Nanjangud and gain experience in PCB manufacturing”, says Kaveesh Gowda V of the Vidya Vikas Institute of Engineering Technology and Educational Trust in Mysuru.
The close cooperation with the universities also confirms the important role that AT&S plays in the region: “AT&S has long been committed to the growth of the printed circuit board industry in India, not only when it comes to the introduction of new technologies, but also in the training of future skilled workers. This gives us an important impetus to attract first-class specialists for first-class printed circuit board production”, says Santosh Gundapi, Managing Director & COO at AT&S India.
