Current IssueInner Layer Precision & Yields
In this issue, we examine the critical nature of building precisions into your inner layers and assessing their pass/fail status as early as possible. Whether it’s using automation to cut down on handling issues, identifying defects earlier, or replacing an old line...
Engineering Economics
The real cost to manufacture a PCB encompasses everything that goes into making the product: the materials and other value-added supplies, machine and personnel costs, and most importantly, your quality. A hard look at real costs seems wholly appropriate.
Alternate Metallization Processes
Traditional electroless copper and electroless copper immersion gold have been primary PCB plating methods for decades. But alternative plating metals and processes have been introduced over the past few years as miniaturization and advanced packaging continue to develop.

Thailand Electronics Circuit Asia 2024 Kicks Off
July 24, 2024 | Nolan Johnson, I-Connect007Estimated reading time: 1 minute
After a long and grueling experience through last week’s airline IT meltdowns, I finally touched down in Bangkok, where I’m here for the inaugural Thailand Electronics Circuit Asia (THECA) show.
The expo and technical conference kicked off Wednesday at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center, featuring an expo and a technical conference. The show is hosted by the Thailand Printed Circuit Association, founded in 2019 by Thai companies seeking to advocate for and educate the Thai electronics manufacturing sector.
The agenda for the technical conference on opening day includes presentations from MacDermid Alpha Electronic Solutions, Dr. Hayao Nakahara, ITEQ Corporation, and Kinwong Electronic Technology, Ltd. With approximately 116 exhibitors, the expo seems poised for a successful launch.
The show managers hoped to attract 250 exhibitors and 4,000 visitors seeking to stay updated on global electronic trends in the ASEAN market, and benefit from the knowledge and experience of industry leaders.
I’ll be on the show floor, meeting with exhibitors and guests, attending technical conference presentations, and reporting on what I find.
For more details on THCPA and the THECA show, read our recent interview with Swaek Prakitritanon, THPCA’s director and general secretary, and president of Auromex Do. Ltd. He was very optimistic about what the show will offer, as well as the burgeoning electronics industry in Thailand. This is sure to be a very interesting and informative experience as we explore new avenues in Southeast Asia.
Check out our RealTime with... THECA site for interviews and photos from the show floor.

Overview of Soldering Systems With Vacuum
12/18/2024 | Dr. Paul Wild, Rehm Thermal Systems GmbHWhen soldering electronic assemblies, the focus of the vacuum application is on the removal of volatile substances from the solder joints and the associated reduction of pore formation. Particularly in the thermal management of power electronics components, pores can cause so-called hotspots with higher temperatures due to their poor heat conduction. These hotspots can lead to overheating of the components on the one hand and to thermally induced destruction of the solder structure on the other.

The Power of Consistency: Showing Up Every Day is Half the Battle
12/09/2024 | Dan Beaulieu -- Column: It's Only Common SenseWoody Allen said it best: The better part of being successful is just showing up. That’s how the tortoise beats the hare. Consistency is the secret sauce that sets successful companies apart. Don’t just occasionally make a big splash; show up day in and day out, and put in the work. It might not sound glamorous, but consistency is the real game-changer.
I-Connect007 Editor’s Choice: Five Must-Reads for the Week
11/22/2024 | Andy Shaughnessy, I-Connect007In this week’s roundup, I’m highlighting a variety of articles. We have an interview with Jess Hollenbaugh, a recent graduate working for Polar Instruments. We also have an interview with IPC’s Matt Kelly and Devan Iyer, whose white paper may provide a way forward for companies dealing with complex advanced packages. Our newest columnist Tom Yang describes the U.S. PCB industry from the point of view of a technologist from another country, and Dan Beaulieu has a review of Malcolm Gladwell’s follow-up to The Tipping Point. Finally, we have my review of PCB Carolina, a one-day tabletop show that keeps expanding, much like my waistline after eating their catered food. Enjoy!
