Current IssueInner Layer Precision & Yields
In this issue, we examine the critical nature of building precisions into your inner layers and assessing their pass/fail status as early as possible. Whether it’s using automation to cut down on handling issues, identifying defects earlier, or replacing an old line...
Engineering Economics
The real cost to manufacture a PCB encompasses everything that goes into making the product: the materials and other value-added supplies, machine and personnel costs, and most importantly, your quality. A hard look at real costs seems wholly appropriate.
Alternate Metallization Processes
Traditional electroless copper and electroless copper immersion gold have been primary PCB plating methods for decades. But alternative plating metals and processes have been introduced over the past few years as miniaturization and advanced packaging continue to develop.

Innovation Advisory Team Launches: Advancing WHMA’s Strategic Vision for Industry Growth
November 21, 2024 | IPCEstimated reading time: 1 minute
The Wiring Harness Manufacturers Association (WHMA) announces the launch of its Innovation Advisory Team (IAT), a strategic initiative aimed at driving technological advancements, enhancing industry practices, and elevating quality and efficiency within the wire harness sector.
As part of WHMA’s comprehensive strategic plan, the IAT will bring together experts from across the industry, including raw material manufacturers, equipment processing specialists, wire harness manufacturers, and academic thought leaders. With a mission to guide the adoption of cutting-edge technologies, the IAT will implement pilot programs that will shape the future of the wire harness industry.
“The launch of the Innovation Advisory Team marks a significant step forward in WHMA’s commitment to fostering industry growth,” said David Bergman, WHMA Executive Director.
The IAT will meet at least three times annually to evaluate emerging industry trends and recommend pilot programs designed to improve quality, boost efficiency, and reduce costs. Key insights and findings will be presented exclusively at WHMA’s Global Summit and Electrical Wire Processing Technology Expo (EWPTE), allowing members to gain early access to groundbreaking developments.
Key Benefits of Joining the IAT:
- Influence the adoption of new technologies and practices in the wire harness industry
- Collaborate with top industry professionals and expand your professional network
- Gain recognition as an industry leader
The IAT is now accepting applications. Visit our IAT website for more details and to submit your application today.

Closing the Loop: iNEMI Workshop Addresses Circularity Challenges
12/09/2024 | Kelly Scanlon, IPC Lead Sustainability StrategistThe electronics industry faces increasing pressure from consumers and regulators to implement more circular design principles in their products. While some companies lead the way, many grapple with significant knowledge gaps. These include a lack of clear definitions for "circular economy" in the context of electronics, insufficient data, and inadequate training to apply circular principles effectively across product lifecycles. Additionally, there's a pressing need to understand the return on investment (ROI) and other potential incentives for implementing circular principles.
