Happy Thanksgiving From the I-Connect007 Team
November 27, 2024 | Andy Shaughnessy, I-Connect007Estimated reading time: 1 minute
The U.S. officially celebrates Thanksgiving Day on the fourth Thursday of November. This holiday dates back to a feast the Pilgrims held in November 1621 to celebrate their first year in the New World. Governor William Bradford invited Chief Massasoit and other members of the Wampanoag tribe to break bread with them, and the party lasted three days. In 1863, in the middle of the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed Thanksgiving Day to be celebrated on the final Thursday in November. Finally, in 1939, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt moved the holiday up one week in hopes of stimulating retail sales during the Great Depression. FDR’s political rivals derided the move as “Franksgiving.” But in 1941, FDR signed a bill proclaiming the fourth Thursday of November to be Thanksgiving Day.

I-Connect007 Editor’s Choice: Five Must-Read ‘Ugly Sweaters’ of the Week
12/27/2024 | Marcy LaRont, I-Connect007In commemoration of the holiday week, we look at what has become a popular tradition in both the U.S. and England: the ugly Christmas sweater. This fabulous tradition has grown in recent years to encompass not only ugly sweaters but sweatshirts, cardigans (a type of sweater), pajamas, and even headgear. For the sake of simplicity (and far too many options from which to choose), we will stick with sweaters. As we round the bend on Christmas 2024, wade halfway into Hannukah, and look toward the New Year, let’s relish “the ugly.”
Merry Christmas from I-Connect007!
12/25/2024 | Marcy LaRont, I-Connect007Though a modern Christmas typically brings to mind vivid images of a jolly Santa Clause, excited children opening gifts on Christmas morning, and huge feasts on festive looking holiday tables, the great holidays in every culture and religious tradition comes with an interesting historical context.
Global Sourcing Spotlight: Navigating the Variables of Holiday Schedules in Global Sourcing
12/10/2024 | Bob Duke -- Column: Global Sourcing SpotlightIn global sourcing, obvious factors often dominate the conversation: cost, quality, and logistics. However, often overlooked is the impact of local holidays and schedules, such as the Chinese New Year. The current holiday season in the Western world got me thinking about how worldwide holiday schedules can affect commerce and, specifically, global sourcing. These events can have a profound effect on your supply chain, leading to delays, increased costs, and even strained relationships with suppliers. Understanding and planning for these variables is not just best practice; it's necessary for anyone serious about global sourcing.
I-Connect007 Editor’s Choice: Five Must-Reads for the Week
11/29/2024 | Nolan Johnson, I-Connect007If you’re in the U.S. today, odds are you’re at home enjoying the aftermath of a Thanksgiving holiday meal. Let me just say that whether you had a Thanksgiving holiday surrounded by family, friends, or both, I hope it was joyous. If you know someone who doesn’t have friends or family with whom to share this time, please reach out and include them. Chronic loneliness can exact a measurable toll on our mental and physical health. Wherever you are on the globe this holiday season, I encourage you to reach out to someone who might be battling loneliness and connect. It will make a difference to them. Not only will it help get you in the mood for your winter holiday of choice, but it’ll be good for your mental health as well.
In Honor of the U.S. Labor Day
08/30/2024 | Marcy LaRont, PCB007 MagazineSept. 2, is Labor Day in the United States, always observed the first Monday in September. In its official declaration, we learn that “Labor Day is an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers. The holiday is rooted in the late 19th century when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being.”
