Facing the Future: Charting the Path Forward for the American PCB Industry
Welcome to the inaugural edition of Facing the Future, a column dedicated to exploring the opportunities, challenges, and innovations shaping the future of the printed circuit board (PCB) industry in North America. I’m thrilled to embark on this journey with you, sharing insights, strategies, and bold predictions for the road ahead.
Why this column? Why now? The PCB industry is at a pivotal juncture. With rapid technological advancements, shifting global supply chains, and growing demand for sustainable manufacturing practices, our industry is evolving faster than ever. These shifts bring with them both unprecedented opportunities and significant challenges. As the founder and president of Alpha Circuit, I’ve had the privilege of working on the front lines of this transformation, leading investments, and initiatives that I believe are critical to the long-term success of our sector.
I created Facing the Future as a platform to engage with thought leaders, innovators, and professionals across the industry. This column isn’t just about reporting what’s happening now, it’s about envisioning what’s next. Through this space, we’ll dive deep into topics that matter most to the North American PCB community and explore strategies to ensure our region not only remains competitive but thrives on the global stage.
Over the coming months, this column will cover a wide range of topics, each focusing on a crucial aspect of the PCB industry’s evolution. Here’s a glimpse of what you can expect:

This is not just a column—it’s a call to action for all of us who believe in the potential of the North American PCB industry.
The journey we’re embarking on together will evolve as the industry does. Here’s a preview of some of the topics I’ll be tackling in the first year:
- The Rise of AI in PCB manufacturing: How artificial intelligence is revolutionizing everything from production processes to supply chain management.
- Sustainable manufacturing: Turning compliance into a competitive advantage and why going green isn’t just good for the planet, it’s good for business.
- Preparing for disruption: I will share lessons from other industries. What can PCB manufacturers learn from industries that have successfully navigated technological and economic upheavals?
- The Customer of the future: How evolving end-user demands will shape the PCBs of tomorrow.
- The next wave of talent: Building a pipeline of skilled workers for a thriving North American PCB sector.
On a more personal note, although my family has been involved in the PCB industry for many years, I have come to it relatively recently having spent the first part of my career successfully developing, and starting pharmacies and clinics, people who know me will tell you that I am deeply passionate about everything that I do and the same now goes for my involvement in the PCB industry. I have approached this with a passion for innovation and improvement. I’ve already invested over $25 million into creating a state-of-the-art PCB Technology Center, and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished so far. But I also know that the future will demand even greater innovation, collaboration, and resilience from all of us.
Through this column, I hope to inspire you to think differently about the challenges we face and to see them as opportunities for growth and reinvention. Together, we can ensure that the North American PCB industry not only survives but thrives in the decades to come.
This is your invitation to join me on an exciting journey into what’s next for our industry. Whether you’re a designer, fabricator, assembler, or OEM, I hope you’ll find value in the insights and ideas shared here. Let’s work together to build a future that we can all be proud of—one that combines cutting-edge innovation with sustainable practices and positions North America as a global leader in PCB manufacturing.
Thank you for being part of this adventure. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts, feedback, and ideas as we face the future together.
