Indonesia PC Market Grew 8.8% In 2024, Driven by Consumers
March 28, 2025 | IDCEstimated reading time: 1 minute
According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Personal Computing Device Tracker, Indonesia's PC market saw a total of 4.1M shipments of desktops, notebooks, and workstations in 2024. This volume represents an 8.8% year-over-year (YoY) growth.
The growth in Indonesia's PC shipments in 2024 was significantly fueled by the consumer segment, which recorded a 16.7% YoY increase. This was initially driven by large vendors hedging their supply timing but was carried later in the year by promotions targeting students who purchased their first devices during the pandemic, among others. Additionally, the substantial expansion of local vendors, who extended their reach to the consumer segment by offering affordable entry-level notebooks and desktops, also played a pivotal role.
In contrast, the commercial segment experienced a 7.5% decline. Negative growth in the public sector and enterprise segment was the reason that the commercial segment could not showcase a noteworthy performance in 2024. Chromebook shipments for education dropped significantly following the termination of the Chromebook for Education program and the decentralization of procurement through the Special Allocation Fund, which allowed public schools to allocate funds according to their priorities and needs and was not limited to purchasing PCs. Government demand also decreased as the government shifted its focus to the presidential, regional, and legislative elections held within 2024 as well as preparing for the new administration.
"Indonesia's PC shipments managed to grow in 2024 despite the overall commercial shipments shrinking, impacted by elections and changes in educational budget priorities," said Theodorus Adiatma, senior market analyst, IDC Indonesia. "The consumer segment became the growth catalyst for Indonesia's PC market, recording growth throughout 2024."
