Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A. and Safran, a French high-technology group and major player in aerospace and defense, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly pursue further business opportunities as part of European defense industry cooperation efforts.
The MoU was signed at PGZ head office in Warsaw during a visit by Safran CEO Olivier Andriès to conduct high-level talks with Krzysztof Trofiniak, President of PGZ Group, on potential areas of cooperation between the two aerospace and defense companies and their subsidiaries.
“In difficult times, it is important to have proven partners — and PGZ sees representatives of the French defense industry as exactly that. Today’s agreement is another step we are taking between our two companies to strengthen the defense of our homeland and the wider region. By working together, we can help make the European Union a true bastion of democracy, with all the capabilities necessary to ensure security for us and future generations.” – Krzysztof Trofiniak, President of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A.
“At a time of geopolitical uncertainty, heightened threats to European security and a far-reaching transformation of European defense, we are proud to contribute to the security and resilience of our continent by forging new Franco-Polish industrial ties. Based on mutual trust and a shared vision, this long-term partnership with the Polish defense industry is an important step in the construction of a true European Defense Industrial and Technological Base.” – Olivier Andriès, Chief Executive Officer of Safran
The partnership outlines the potential areas of cooperation between PGZ and Safran. The main avenues of industrial development identified so far include, but are not limited to, engines and propulsion for air platforms, optronics, artificial intelligence, and smart munitions and PNT (position, navigation, timing) solutions. Other potential areas will be assessed by task forces from both companies.
The current cooperation between PGZ and Safran is mainly focused on PNT systems between WZE and Safran Electronics & Defense, with deliveries of Geonyx inertial navigation and pointing systems for Polish air defense programs. The plan being pursued in this field will lead to the establishment of a new navigation production line in Poland, with nearly 80% of system components being manufactured locally. Work on the infrastructure is already underway, and the first training of WZE teams in France will start in Q3 2025.
