Beyond the Rulebook
What happens when the rule book is no longer useful, or worse, was never written in the first place? In today’s fast-moving electronics landscape, we’re increasingly asked to design and build what has no precedent, no proven path, and no tidy checklist to follow. This is where “Design for Invention” begins.

April 15, 2025 | Technica USAEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
Technica USA was pleased to announce the recipients of its 2024 Supplier Alliance Awards, presented at the 2025 IPC/APEX Expo in Anaheim, California. These prestigious awards recognize outstanding suppliers in the PCB fabrication and PCB assembly sectors, honoring those who go above and beyond in aligning their resources, initiatives, and expertise with Technica’s mission to achieve unparalleled success.
SAA was named the recipient of the 2024 PCB Fabrication Supplier Alliance Award, and ASMPT was awarded the PCB Assembly Supplier Alliance Award. Both companies demonstrated exceptional alignment with Technica’s core values, exemplifying the definition of SUCCESS in their collaboration:
Strength- Leading innovation in technology and development to meet the market demands
Unity – Working in harmony, ensuring mutual benefits and customer confidence
Cooperation – Achieving remarkable results through collaborative efforts on key projects
Communication – Clear and consistent dialogue for achieving shared goals
Effectiveness-Delivering measurable results that drive growth and success
Strategy – Alignment of business strategies to strengthen partnerships
Support – Offering unwavering support to Technica and its mutual customers
SAA was recognized for its outstanding contributions in PCB fabrication. The company has been a key partner in delivering cutting-edge automation solutions to customers across the globe. SAA is a leader in automation solutions for the PCB fabrication, substrate, and semiconductor industries. In 2024, SAA’s collaboration with Technica played a pivotal role in securing a significant business opportunity with a major PCB fabricator. This successful installation has positioned the customer, Technica and SAA to expand the solution across the customers additional facilities in North America.

On the PCB assembly side, ASMPT was honored for its long-standing partnership with Technica in delivering world-class component placement machines and stencil printing equipment. Over the past 12 years, ASMPT’s unwavering support has helped Technica expand its presence in the PCB assembly market, including a recent opportunity to grow into Southern California and Southern Nevada.
Alex Hagenfeldt, General Manager for USA and Canada and Mark Ogden, Marketing Manager Americas, accepted the award on behalf of the company. ASMPT’s collaboration with Technica has been instrumental in securing installations at some of the most prominent PCB assembly customers in the U.S. and has significantly contributed to Technica and ASMPT’s market growth.
This marks the second year of the Supplier Alliance Award presentation, a tradition that began in 2023. In its inaugural year, Wise s.r.l. of Italy was honored with the PCB Fabrication Supplier Alliance Award, and ASMPT received the PCB Assembly Supplier Alliance Award for their outstanding contributions.
Jason Perry, President of Technica USA, commented, “We are thrilled to present these awards to SAA and ASMPT this year. While all our suppliers are exceptional in their respective areas, these two companies have gone above and beyond in supporting our shared goals. Choosing winners is never an easy task, given the caliber of suppliers we work with. However, the dedication and performance demonstrated by SAA and ASMPT have been truly outstanding, and we’re proud to honor them for their contributions to our collective success.”

I-Connect007 Editor’s Choice: Five Must-Reads for the Week
05/15/2026 | Nolan Johnson, I-Connect007When you work in the news business, even in trade media, you can never really get that far away from it. We never want to miss something important. Chances are, even the books we take on our “vacations” end up having to do with the business. For example, my colleague Michelle Te recommended “Creativity, Inc., by Ed Catmull, a business skills study wrapped up in stories about Pixar, which I brought with me on a trip through the stunning U.S. Mountain West. Now, I’m back, and here are my recommendations for the week.

Rethinking Stackup, Materials, and Tolerances in Modern Designs
05/14/2026 | Kristin Moyer, Global Electronics AssociationThe simple rectangular rigid PCB is becoming increasingly infrequent. This reality necessitates designing with concepts well outside traditional rigid PCB methodologies. For example, the designer of wearable electronics may need to implement conductive fibers integrated into the textile material. Heads-up displays, like those in VR/AR headsets and glasses, require transparent circuitry etched into the display glass. The process of designing without a rule book usually starts with something other than the traditional board design process.
Separating Fact from Fear on the FCC ‘China Lab Ban’
05/14/2026 | Jan Pedersen, NCAB GroupRecent news headlines have suggested that the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has “banned all testing laboratories in China and Hong Kong.” Understandably, this has created concerns around PCB testing, material approvals, UL listings, and the continued use of established test laboratories in Asia. The good news is that for most PCB, PCB material, and PCBA testing, nothing has changed. Let’s separate fact from fear.
