The technology group is thus further expanding its presence in Romania and its status as a leading producer and service provider for the Romanian armed forces. The provision of advanced turnkey solutions for the production of infantry fighting vehicles, ammunition, and powder, as well as state-of-the-art training services, is intended to sustainably strengthen the Romanian defense industry. The network includes Rheinmetall Automecanica, other local Rheinmetall activities, and a new Excellence Center for training, continuing education, and professional development.
A cornerstone of Rheinmetall's localization efforts is its collaboration with key Romanian companies, including Uzina Automecanica Moreni, Interactive Software SRL, and MarcTel-SIT. These partnerships will promote local procurement and assembly processes and advance the integration of Romanian expertise into the production chain.
The initiative focuses on local production of the Lynx infantry fighting vehicle at Rheinmetall Automecanica, with a robust supply chain and reduced dependence on external suppliers. Rheinmetall Munitions Romania will manufacture medium-caliber ammunition for infantry fighting vehicles and air defense systems, while powder production will take place at the Victoria Explosive Powder Factory, for which Rheinmetall is providing know-how and technology for a propylene plant. The local service facilities will provide ongoing maintenance and support for military equipment, ensuring operational readiness at all times.
The Rheinmetall Excellence Center in Romania is designed to ensure the transfer of critical know-how to the local workforce. Equipped with state-of-the-art simulators and comprehensive training programs, the center will provide Romanian employees with practical experience and technical expertise in the operation, maintenance, and development of advanced defense technologies, particularly related to the Lynx infantry fighting vehicle.
Rheinmetall's investment in local production will make a significant contribution to the Romanian economy by creating hundreds of jobs in various sectors, including manufacturing, engineering, and technical services.
