Beyond the Rulebook
What happens when the rule book is no longer useful, or worse, was never written in the first place? In today’s fast-moving electronics landscape, we’re increasingly asked to design and build what has no precedent, no proven path, and no tidy checklist to follow. This is where “Design for Invention” begins.
March Madness
From the growing role of AI in design tools to the challenge of managing cumulative tolerances, these articles in this issue examine the technical details, design choices, and manufacturing considerations that determine whether a board works as intended.

Transforming the Industry: Advint's Mission in Metallization
September 18, 2025 | Marcy LaRont, PCB007 MagazineEstimated reading time: 1 minute
With three decades of experience in engineering, research, and operations in blue-chip organizations, including Boeing and Honeywell, Venkat Raja has developed a passion for electroplating. In 2018, he founded Advint Incorporated, an electroplating advisory and training services firm dedicated to solving operational challenges, enhancing efficiency, and providing specialized training programs.
In this interview, Venkat emphasizes the importance of intention and tailored solutions for companies, including those at the forefront of technology in the electronics sector. Advint is committed to fostering expertise among professionals and is a valuable resource for organizations looking to optimize their electroplating operations, incorporating a continuous improvement business philosophy into its technical training.
Marcy LaRont: Venkat, it is very nice to meet you. How did you come up with the name for your company?
Venkat Raja: I was mulling over the firm that I wanted to start about electroplating technology, which I'm very passionate about. I thought about what’s important for someone who’s becomingan expert in this area, or for an organization to modify or optimize its electroplating operation to be more profitable. The word “intent” is what we have in mind when we undertake a task or challenge. I also thought of “advent,” which means to start or to begin. So, I combined the two words and coined “Advint.”
We have added the infinity symbol to our logo. Our philosophy is that when we begin with intent, the possibilities are infinite. Our motto is, “Sense the power of intentions.” That applies both to my student participants in the electroplating training and to those who want to improve the efficiency of their electroplating lines or departments. As long as we have the intention, the possibilities are infinite, and we can achieve results in capability, capacity, and efficiency.
