Beyond the Rulebook
What happens when the rule book is no longer useful, or worse, was never written in the first place? In today’s fast-moving electronics landscape, we’re increasingly asked to design and build what has no precedent, no proven path, and no tidy checklist to follow. This is where “Design for Invention” begins.
March Madness
From the growing role of AI in design tools to the challenge of managing cumulative tolerances, these articles in this issue examine the technical details, design choices, and manufacturing considerations that determine whether a board works as intended.

Saab Receives Spanish Artillery Radar Contract
October 21, 2025 | SaabEstimated reading time: 1 minute
Saab has received an order from the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA), for the life time extension of the Arthur radar systems for the Spanish Army. The order value is approximately SEK 540 million (EUR 49.4 million).
The order will, with modern technology, ensure the critical capabilities of Spain’s artillery locating force while sustaining cost effectiveness. The life time extension will provide both high operational mobility and precise counter-battery operation, meaning an increased number of targets are located at greater ranges but with a reduced electronic signature.
“We are pleased to continue to strengthen Spain’s artillery locating capability, which is critical in warning of incoming fire as well as enabling quick counter-battery fire. The order is the first of our radar systems to go via NATO’s purchasing organisation which is an important step for us,” says Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s business area Surveillance.
Arthur is an artillery locating radar that offers a modern, digitalised system protecting troops and civilians by warning of incoming fire and is also used for missions such as counter-battery fire and fire control.
