The Journey from Dilution to Zero Liquid Discharge

05/11/2026 | Richard Nichols, GreenSource Engineering
If you’re familiar with the PCB industry, and a little long in the tooth like me, you may remember the cry, “The water board is here!” (or an equivalent authority). This was the signal for a frantic but regularly rehearsed exercise to turn on all the rinses. This anecdote demonstrates that in the early days of PCB production, prevailing practices revolved around a “dilution is the solution” mentality, in which manufacturers used copious amounts of water to dilute contaminants before discharging them into regulated municipal wastewater systems or natural water bodies.

Institute of Circuit Technology Spring Seminar 2026: A Bright Future in Europe

04/23/2026 | Pete Starkey, I-Connect007
Through the leafy lanes and spring flowers of Warwickshire and back to Meridan, the traditional centre of England, and now officially part of the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull in the county of the West Midlands, I attended the Annual General Meeting and Spring Seminar of the Institute of Circuit Technology (ICT) on April 14. Out of the AGM came notable changes in leadership at the top of the Institute: the retirement of Mat Beadel as chair and Emma Hudson as technical director. Effective May 1, Steve Driver is the new chair, and Alun Morgan is the new technical director.

Don’t Call It Ground, Call It Return

04/09/2026 | Kristin Moyer, Global Electronics Association
If you’ve studied electrical or computer engineering, or have just read an electronics schematic, circuit diagram, or other application notes, you've likely seen the term “Ground,” often abbreviated GND. This is used in school and during the teaching of electronics circuit analysis to indicate a reference or zero-voltage node for circuit analysis. It is also taught that there is no current in GND since the voltage is zero. These are assumptions made for the purpose of simplifying the introduction to circuit analysis.

Finding Your Marketing Niche in a Crowded PCB Industry

03/10/2026 | Richard Nichols, GreenSource Engineering
I recently made a flippant comment on LinkedIn, “All marketing and no trousers,” hinting that marketing campaigns often do not have a tangible product to market and the campaign is marketing a concept or a gut feeling. For PCB and IC substrate manufacturers, this poses a great risk for unsuccessful campaigns and the opportunity to innovate in an increasingly competitive and global landscape.
