Beyond the Rulebook
What happens when the rule book is no longer useful, or worse, was never written in the first place? In today’s fast-moving electronics landscape, we’re increasingly asked to design and build what has no precedent, no proven path, and no tidy checklist to follow. This is where “Design for Invention” begins.
March Madness
From the growing role of AI in design tools to the challenge of managing cumulative tolerances, these articles in this issue examine the technical details, design choices, and manufacturing considerations that determine whether a board works as intended.

American Standard Circuits Announces 35 Fully Trained and Certified IPC-A-600 Associates
March 4, 2026 |Estimated reading time: 2 minutes
Anaya Vardya, President and CEO of American Standard Circuits, recently announced that 35 of the company's associates have successfully completed full training and certification under the IPC-A-600 Acceptability of Printed Boards standard.
This milestone reflects ASC’s ongoing commitment to quality, consistency, and technical excellence in PCB manufacturing.
IPC-A-600 is the globally recognized standard for printed board acceptability. It defines the criteria for evaluating the quality of bare printed circuit boards, including conductor integrity, laminate conditions, plating thickness, solder mask requirements, and overall workmanship. Certification under this rigorous program ensures that trained associates understand and apply the most current industry standards governing PCB quality and reliability.
“Quality is not a department at ASC — it’s our culture,” said Mr. Vardya when making the announcement. “Having 30 fully trained IPC-A-600 associates means our customers can trust that the boards we produce are evaluated, inspected, and manufactured to the highest industry standards.”
For customers, this achievement translates into measurable value:
• Greater consistency in product performance
• Reduced risk of defects and rework
• Stronger compliance with industry specifications
• Improved reliability in mission-critical applications
• Confidence in inspection processes and acceptance criteria
By investing in comprehensive IPC-A-600 training, ASC reinforces its dedication to disciplined manufacturing practices. Associates across production, inspection, and quality assurance now share a common technical language and clear acceptance benchmarks. This alignment reduces ambiguity, improves communication, and strengthens internal accountability.
In an industry where complexity continues to grow — from high-density interconnect (HDI) designs to advanced materials and tight tolerances — standardization matters more than ever. IPC-A-600 training ensures that ASC’s team is fully equipped to evaluate today’s sophisticated board designs with precision and confidence.
The certification of 30 associates also reflects ASC’s broader strategy: continuous workforce development. Investing in people is central to maintaining leadership in a competitive marketplace. Rather than relying solely on equipment or automation, ASC focuses on empowering its team with the knowledge required to uphold world-class quality standards.
For industries such as aerospace, defense, medical, industrial controls, and high-performance electronics, IPC-A-600 compliance is not optional — it is foundational. ASC’s expanded bench of certified professionals strengthens its ability to serve customers operating in regulated and reliability-driven environments.
This achievement further supports ASC’s reputation as a trusted manufacturing partner. Quality standards are only meaningful when they are understood and applied consistently. With 35 certified associates on staff, ASC demonstrates that its commitment to IPC standards is not symbolic — it is operational.
American Standard Circuits continues to invest in training, technology, and process discipline to ensure customers receive products that meet or exceed expectations every time.

Is China Plus One Still Happening in the PCB Industry?
04/28/2026 | Manfred Huschka, Manfred Huschka Management Consulting (Shenzhen) Ltd.For much of the past five years, China Plus One has been shorthand for supply-chain diversification: reducing dependency on mainland China by adding manufacturing capacity elsewhere in Asia. In the PCB industry, however, in early 2026, it is more nuanced. It looks less like a clean geographic shift and more like a layered, capital-intensive rebalancing of global capacity, one that still leaves China deeply embedded at the center.
