In an exciting new column for I-Connect007 Magazine, a team of application engineers from Flexible Circuit Technologies will draw on decades of experience designing and manufacturing flex and rigid-flex circuits to offer practical guidance to help PCB designers make better engineering decisions.
Mark Finstad, Chris Clark, Terrill Schmidt, Dan Skweres, and Zack Schaner will rotate authoring the new column, called Flex Connections, which begins in the August issue, with Dan drawing on his many years of experience to explain why just because you can do something in PCB design, doesn’t mean you should.
“The best designs aren’t necessarily the ones that push every manufacturing limit,” Dan says. “They’re the ones that meet the product’s requirements without adding unnecessary complexity. That’s the perspective I hope to share through this column.”
In the September issue, Zack explores how copper and nickel tabs enable flexible circuits to do more than just route signals, explaining the advantages and applications of both.
Mark is director of application engineering at Flexible Circuit Technologies. Chris is a senior principal applications engineer, Terrill is director of technology, and Dan and Zack are senior applications engineers. Combined, they have more than 130 years of experience in flex and rigid-flex technologies.
“We may not be able to tell you everything that can work, but with our four decades of flex circuit design, we can tell you pretty much everything that won’t work,” Mark says.
