GlobalFoundries opened its Advanced Facilities Control Centre (AFCC) at its Singapore site, advancing the company’s leadership in digitally-enabled semiconductor manufacturing. Developed in collaboration with technology partner Siemens, the AI-enabled command centre integrates facilities operations and data across GF’s global manufacturing footprint, with first roll-out at its Singapore campus. This marks a new milestone in GF’s digital innovation and reinforces Singapore’s strategic role as a key manufacturing and operations hub for GF.
Five fab-specific control centres across the GF Singapore campus will be integrated into one command centre as part of the first phase. By combining facilities data and operational metrics, the AFCC incorporates advanced monitoring and visualisation tools with AI-driven capabilities such as predictive maintenance to help teams accelerate troubleshooting, identify root causes more quickly, detect emerging issues earlier and prioritise the highest-impact actions.
“Reliable facilities infrastructure is foundational to semiconductor manufacturing, and the AFCC represents an important step in building a more connected, intelligent and resilient global manufacturing network,” said Pradip Singh, Chief Manufacturing Officer at GlobalFoundries. “By bringing greater consistency, visibility and intelligence to our critical facilities infrastructure, we are paving the way for smarter, more sustainable operations across our global network and strengthening the foundation that enables GF’s manufacturing excellence.”
Upon full global deployment, this capability will integrate more than 1 million critical data points from facilities equipment across GF’s global manufacturing network, supporting the benchmarking of operational metrics across sites to optimise performance and enhance the sustainability of manufacturing operations. With 24/7 equipment health monitoring, teams can identify potential issues earlier, reducing unplanned downtime and enabling faster response. The centralised model will also drive greater operational efficiency by optimising the use of space, equipment and workforce resources, while reducing duplicated infrastructure, energy consumption and associated emissions.
“With trusted data, secure infrastructure and deep industrial know-how, we can scale predictive maintenance, advanced automation and Industrial AI with Singapore as the starting point,” said Isabel Chong, Managing Director, Digital Industries ASEAN, Siemens. “By combining GF’s semiconductor manufacturing expertise with Siemens’ industrial digitalisation capabilities, we are building the next generation of global facilities operations, making semiconductor manufacturing more intelligent, more resilient and more efficient.”
Autonomous robots equipped with thermal imaging, gas detection, vibration acoustics and other anomaly-sensing capabilities conduct routine patrols and visual inspections on the fab facility floor and campus, transmitting real-time data to the AFCC for analysis and response. By connecting on-site sensing with centralised monitoring, the robots extend the AFCC’s ability to detect potential issues early and enable faster intervention.
“This is another step forward in semiconductor manufacturing excellence. Given our strong digital foundation and the support for innovation from the government and the broader ecosystem, Singapore is the ideal location to start the first deployment,” said Yew Kong Tan, Senior Vice President and General Manager, APAC Manufacturing and Singapore Site, GlobalFoundries. “By equipping our facilities engineers with data and AI-driven capabilities, we are modernising jobs and enabling our people to focus on higher-value diagnostics and problem-solving, deepen their technical expertise and build rewarding careers in semiconductors.”
“The Advanced Facilities Control Centre reflects Singapore’s collaborative approach to manufacturing excellence and innovation, bringing together industry and technology partners to develop new digital solutions within our advanced manufacturing ecosystem. This also creates opportunities for our engineers to deepen their digital capabilities and work with cutting-edge technologies,” said Cindy Koh, Executive Vice President, Singapore Economic Development Board. “We look forward to strengthening our long-standing partnership with GlobalFoundries and advancing new growth areas such as advanced packaging and silicon photonics.”
