Safer Chemistry, Shifting Rules: What’s Next for Electronics Manufacturers?

10/28/2026 | Kelly Scanlon and Brendan Galloway, Global Electronics Association
At the Chemical Watch Regulatory Summit North America 2026, we spent much of our time in different rooms. Kelly followed the chemicals management for electronics discussions, while Brendan focused primarily on chemical control. Yet a common concern emerged across both tracks: Companies are navigating a fragmented regulatory landscape while trying to maintain compliance, introduce new technologies and advance safer chemistry. Our perspectives reflect two sides of that challenge, how manufacturers respond to changing requirements, and how policy can support or complicate their progress.

It’s Only Common Sense: Stop Watching the Headlines and Start Watching the Opportunity

07/27/2026 | Dan Beaulieu -- Column: It's Only Common Sense
If you spend too much time watching the news, you could easily convince yourself that the electronics industry is headed for trouble. Every day seems to bring another story about tariffs, supply chain disruptions, labor shortages, geopolitical tensions, inflation, slowing economies, or uncertainty in global markets. It is enough to make even experienced business leaders question what comes next.

DFM Mistakes Designers Make When Moving to ELIC

07/20/2026 | Anaya Vardya, American Standard Circuits
The transition from HDI to every layer interconnect (ELIC) is where the DFM gap between design intent and fabrication reality is most visible. Several common misconceptions appear consistently in the data packages we review at ASC. The most common ELIC design mistake mirrors what we generally see in first-time UHDI builds: using process minimums everywhere because they appear on a capability chart. In ELIC, this is especially consequential. If only one region truly requires aggressive geometry, say, a fine-pitch BGA escape, the rest of the design should preserve margin. Relaxing non-critical areas makes the overall build more manufacturable without sacrificing the dense region that drives the stackup.

It’s Only Common Sense: Stop Your Love Affair with Certainty

09/18/2023 | Dan Beaulieu -- Column: It's Only Common Sense
Often, standing still and doing nothing is the most dangerous tactic you can take. Most companies who get themselves in a jam did it because they didn’t do anything. They saw their impending doom but were too frozen in their fear of uncertainty to do anything about it. Transitioning from a mindset of absolute certainty to one focused on accomplishment and growth can be a powerful, but necessary shift. To help you with changing that mindset, here are 12 things to consider.
