ASSEMBLY TOOLS & EQUIPMENTVertical Lift Module
The Power Column 2 vertical lift module (VLM) delivers a high-density, small-footprint storage and retrieval solution. Vertical-travel speed is 55"/sec, allowing quick item retrieval. Specialty trays are available in widths up to 157" and weight capacities up to 1,100 lbs. An integrated parts-lookup table enables part-number searches and retrieves the tray automatically. The VLM features a rack-and-pinion drive for pinpoint retrieval of item trays without adjustment. Available in heights from 10 to 50 ft., additional features include a tray that tilts to 45º, a lift system that adjusts pick-tray height and a lockable power door for added security. FKI Logistex North America, St. Louis, Mo.
Robotic Controller
The TH450 SCARA robot features a high-output/high-revolution motor, high-speed ball screws and a lightweight arm, making it suitable for short-distance movements. Total arm span is 450 mm, and a lower cable position enables use in tight spaces. The robot reaches composite speeds up to 7.33 m/sec with three axis speeds. Payload is 5 kg, and positioning repeatability with X/Y and Z accuracies are ±0.015 and ±0.01, respectively. A full-function TS2000 controller includes built-in PLC, an operation panel and a multitask function. Toshiba Machine Co., Elk Grove Village, Ill.
Magnifier Base
The Roll-A-Round base for magnifiers offers mobility and space savings. The heavy-duty base features a five-leg caster system and is compatible with most magnifiers or workbench-mounted lighting fixtures that use a standard ½" bottom-mounting pin. The 32" chair-height, weighted base is tip-resistant. O.C. White Co., Three Rivers, Mass.
Metal Identification Labels
Withstanding temperatures up to 600°C, the XF-800 series of metal labels require no tack welding or nailing, and can be applied automatically to hot surfaces using an adhesive for hot billets, bars, coils and slabs. The series is thermal-transfer printable and allows for on-site bar coding and alphanumeric identification. Heat-resistant labels can withstand hot-metals manufacturing for accurate traceability. Polyonics, Inc., Westmoreland, N.H.
HARDWARESMT Filter
Featuring a 0.442" x 184" footprint, and a thickness of 0.030", the S-band planar, low-pass SMT filter targets RF/microwave circuit designs. Passband reaches 2,500 MHz with passband ripple of 0.01 dB. Second and third harmonic rejection is a minimum of 25 dB and filter VSWR is a 1.1:1 ratio. The filter incorporates five sections with a 50-Ω I/O. Target applications include wireless LANs, microwave communication links, radar systems and wireless sensors and controls. International Manufacturing Services, Inc., Portsmouth, R.I.
DISPENSING EQUIPMENTDispensing Unit
The C-Pour reaction injection molding (RIM) gun and metering/tempering unit dispenses flexible or rigid polyurethane into molds or onto parts for filter applications requiring low flow rates. The unit features a mechanical, solventless, self-cleaning, L-type impinge mix gun to circulate two component chemicals through the impingement rod and back to the supply reservoirs. Other features include continuous flow, precision metering pumps with flow rates ranging from 20 to 60 cc/sec and impingement pressures up to 3,000 psi. Heat exchangers between metering pumps and the mixing head allow impingement temperatures up to 65ºC. Flow meters or the wet-calibration station maintains ratio and flow rate. Liquid Control Decker, a business unit of Liquid Control Corp., Palm City, Fla.
INSPECTION EQUIPMENTX-ray Inspection System
Developed for in- and off-line operation for fault detection on SMD, BGA and THT components, the X8051 MXI/AXI system also targets lead-free solder joints. Using the X8051 system, users can check objects with dimensions up to 560 x 710 mm. Visual inspections can be performed using standard CCIR sensors or mega-pixel modules for automatic-reference marking analysis or optical pre-positioning of X-ray inspection windows. AXI image-field dimensions range from 4 x 5 mm to 15 x 21 mm. A rotating conveying mechanism enables in-line-system use for angular inspections up to 70º. Viscom USA, Norcross, Ga.
Lighting Solution
LightRay Optics lighting accessory attaches to MS-Q handheld imagers to read direct-part marks. By directing light at the symbol or mark at a shallow angle, the LightRay reportedly increases symbol contrast and improves overall symbol readability. By diffusing light, it can read 2-D symbols marked directly on highly reflective surfaces, such as polished, shiny metals. Constructed of industrial-grade materials, the imager can withstand harsh factory environments and is field-replaceable. In aerospace and other applications involving large parts that require mobility, the lighting device incorporates Bluetooth wireless capabilities with a 300'-communication range. Microscan Systems, Inc., Renton, Wash.
PASSIVE COMPONENTSPlanar Cores
A series of EQ ferrite planar cores are available in ER24, ER26 and ER32 shapes and high-performance N97, N92 and N49 materials. The cores feature low-power dissipation, high DC-magnetic bias and compatibility with frequencies up to 1 MHz. EPCOS, Inc., Iselin, N.J.
SMT MATERIALSEpoxy Preforms
The Uni-form one-part epoxy preforms can seal or bond electromechanical components. Solid at room temperature, the preforms melt and cure when heated, forming a consistent seal to protect components from dust, moisture, oil, flux, industrial-cleaning solvents, conformal coatings and other contaminants. Various sizes, shapes and epoxy systems are available. Custom preforms also can be designed. MULTI-SEALS, Inc., Manchester, Conn.
SOFTWAREDesign Preview Tool
A PDF preview tool, the Check Plot Online, provides an accurate view of circuit-board designs prior to production. Using this tool, engineers upload Gerber files to a Website and receive feedback within minutes. The data highlights potential design problems and suggests modifications, letting developers identify potential problems before final production. Advanced Circuits, Aurora, Colo.
SOLDERING EQUIPMENTUV Curing System
The Sidekick high-powered, air-cooled, flood UV-curing system can be used in smaller applications, or to enhance production lines. The system can be handheld, used alone or in multiples in a production system - with or without a robotic arm to cure coatings, inks and adhesives. The system produces UV wavelengths up to 365 nm, or 410 nm with a Gallium lamp when curing opaque coatings. UV III Systems, Inc., Bellingham, Mass.
