Ucamco's Gerber Now Even Clearer
July 16, 2015 | UcamcoEstimated reading time: 1 minute
Early in 2015, a specialist team from Ucamco focused its energies on making the PCB industry's simplest and most powerful image format specification even more user friendly. The result, says Ucamco Managing Director Karel Tavernier, is added clarity and consistency, and everything you could possibly need for professional, unequivocal image data management and transfer. “We are dedicated to excellence in everything that we do, and the Gerber specification is no exception”, he says. “We believe that Gerber, now Gerber X2, is simply the best PCB image data format out there. By keeping it up to date with the changing needs of the marketplace, and continuing to offer it as a free and freely-available resource, we feel that we are making an invaluable contribution to the global PCB industry”.
Together with Ucamco's Thomas Weyn and Artem Kostyukovich, Karel Tavernier reviewed the entire document in depth, editing the text to ensure consistent, precise terminology, and deprecating, further deprecating or removing elements that were considered to be confusing or no longer in keeping with today's PCB manufacturing needs. The new revision also includes a number of clear tables, charts and graphics where they support and clarify instructions and guidelines.
The team's aim was to make the specification more instructive and even easier to follow. With this in mind, the “Overview” chapter was given a special overhaul so that it now reads like a tutorial to help readers understand the concepts, aspects and features of Gerber. It is supported with clearly flagged notes and additional information that support the clear understanding and hassle-free use of the Gerber format.
