Current IssueIn Pursuit of Perfection: Defect Reduction
For bare PCB board fabrication, defect reduction is a critical aspect of a company's bottom line profitability. In this issue, we examine how imaging, etching, and plating processes can provide information and insight into reducing defects and increasing yields.
Voices of the Industry
We take the pulse of the PCB industry by sharing insights from leading fabricators and suppliers in this month's issue. We've gathered their thoughts on the new U.S. administration, spending, the war in Ukraine, and their most pressing needs. It’s an eye-opening and enlightening look behind the curtain.
The Essential Guide to Surface Finishes
We go back to basics this month with a recount of a little history, and look forward to addressing the many challenges that high density, high frequency, adhesion, SI, and corrosion concerns for harsh environments bring to the fore. We compare and contrast surface finishes by type and application, take a hard look at the many iterations of gold plating, and address palladium as a surface finish.

Bay Area Circuits Annual Open House a Huge Success
November 2, 2015 | Bay Area CircuitsEstimated reading time: 1 minute
Bay Area Circuits, Inc., a leading quick-turn manufacturer of printed circuit boards (PCBs), hosted its third annual Open House on Friday, October 9th from 11:00AM to 3:00 PM.
Over one hundred and fifty people including customers and vendors attended the event which was first and foremost a celebration recognizing the company’s forty years in business. The event also marked the unveiling of three cutting edge pieces of equipment that Bay Area Circuits has purchased in the past year including an Excellon 136L Intelli-Drill System, a Seica Flying Probe Test System and the Camtek Gryphon 3D Functional Inkjet Technology System for solder mask application; the first machine of its kind for which Bay Area Circuits is now operating in a production environment.
These three pieces of equipment were featured and demonstrated during a series of tours offered at the facility throughout the event. Attendees were also treated to a fantastic lunch provided by the locally renowned Slider Truck which was on site throughout the event!
“This is a great opportunity for us to give back to both our customers who make everything happen and to recognize our vendors who are always ready to help and support us in all of our endeavors throughout the year,” said Stephen Garcia, President of Bay Area Circuits. “It was wonderful seeing everyone here having a good time while learning more about our company and what we do here. It has been a particularly good year for Bay Area Circuits but we always remember that we don’t do it alone, and in fact it is the people we are hosting here who make it all possible.”

Knocking Down the Bone Pile: Gold Mitigation for Class 2 Electronics
05/07/2025 | Nash Bell -- Column: Knocking Down the Bone PileIn electronic assemblies, the integrity of connections between components is paramount for ensuring reliability and performance. Gold embrittlement and dissolution are two critical phenomena that can compromise this integrity. Gold embrittlement occurs when gold diffuses into solder joints or alloys, resulting in mechanical brittleness and an increased susceptibility to cracking. Conversely, gold dissolution involves the melting away of gold into solder or metal matrices, potentially altering the electrical and mechanical properties of the joint.
