Electrolube Sees Strong Demand for Safewash Total Cleaner
April 11, 2016 | ElectrolubeEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
Electrolube's aqueous cleaning solution Safewash Total, which provides advanced cleaning performance to military cleanliness standards (ANSI-J-001B/IPC TM-650), has recently grown in popularity for military and commercial applications to become one of the most successful products within the company’s range of Safewash cleaning products. Designed for cleaning PCBs, Safewash Total (SWAT) is ideal for the removal of leaded, lead-free and no-clean flux residues. The cleaner is also suitable for the removal of pastes and adhesives from screens, stencils, boards and accessories as well as general degreasing applications.
"We are delighted with the demand for Safewash Total. Manufacturers are increasingly understanding the importance of cleaning PCB assemblies prior to conformal coating for good adhesion between coating and the assembly surface and how poor preparation due to modest cleaning can lead to many problems later on in the conformal coating process, not to mention the potentially harmful contaminants that could lead to PCB failure," says Ron Jakeman, managing director of Electrolube. "The feedback from customers has truly endorsed the efficiency of SWAT, particularly when it comes to high cleaning performance at reduced temperatures, the environmental and cost saving benefits and the flexibility for a wide range of assemblies, including those that need to meet military cleanliness standards."
Cleaning efficiency can be maintained, even after many uses, by regularly filtering the Safewash Total solution to remove contaminants. A variety of methods including refractive index, pH and electrical conductivity can be used to determine the contamination level of the solution. The most suitable method will depend on the type of residue being removed.

Nolan’s Notes: Tariffs, Technologies, and Optimization
10/01/2025 | Nolan Johnson -- Column: Nolan's NotesLast month, SMT007 Magazine spotlighted India, and boy, did we pick a good time to do so. Tariff and trade news involving India was breaking like a storm surge. The U.S. tariffs shifted India from one of the most favorable trade agreements to the least favorable. Electronics continue to be exempt for the time being, but lest you think that we’re free and clear because we manufacture electronics, steel and aluminum are specifically called out at the 50% tariff levels.
