The Essential Guide to Surface Finishes
We go back to basics this month with a recount of a little history, and look forward to addressing the many challenges that high density, high frequency, adhesion, SI, and corrosion concerns for harsh environments bring to the fore. We compare and contrast surface finishes by type and application, take a hard look at the many iterations of gold plating, and address palladium as a surface finish.

Yearlong Celebration Continues for International Electronic Components (IEC)
June 22, 2016 | IECEstimated reading time: 1 minute
Celebrations continue for International Electronic Components (IEC) as they mark the halfway point of their 50th anniversary year. IEC welcomed customers, suppliers and colleagues from across North America to join in the party held at the Old Country Inn in picturesque Unionville, not far from IEC's Canadian headquarters.
The IEC team, decked out in matching black logoed shirts, encouraged guests to grab some props and take a turn posing at the photo booth. Laughter erupted from that corner of the room all evening. Over 100 guests enjoyed IEC’s hospitality with plenty of food and drink for all while the mood was set with subtle live jazz. Old friends and new chatted enthusiastically, sharing stories from IECs long history.
“We’re really honoured that you could be here to celebrate with us today,” said Shawn Stone, IEC president. “I’d like to personally thank some industry pioneers and founding fathers who we are fortunate to have with us here today. Without your inspiration and innovation, IEC wouldn’t be here. I also want to say thank you to the IEC team and our loyal customers and suppliers for making my dad’s dream of ‘organized friendship’ come true. Now let’s have some fun!”
About IEC
IEC was founded in 1966 by the late James Patterson Stone. His son, Shawn Stone, along with business partner Chuck Williams, have continued to grow the business as a successful sales and service provider and the longest serving distributor to the Circuit Board industry in North America. They have established partnerships with companies such as Dow/Eternal, CAC, MTH and Kodak that span decades.
