Current IssueSolder Printing
In this issue, we turn a discerning eye to solder paste printing. As apertures shrink, and the requirement for multiple thicknesses of paste on the same board becomes more commonplace, consistently and accurately applying paste becomes ever more challenging.
A Culture of Thriving
One cannot simply command thriving; it must be nurtured, developed, and encouraged. In this issue, we explore strategies to improve your working relationship model—both internally and externally. In this culture of thriving, your business will grow in the process.
Certifications
Certifications have historically been seen as a cost of doing business, but how do we turn them into a positive ROI and a value to both customer and vendor?

PCB Designers: Perfect Your Data Package with New eBook from Prototron
September 27, 2018 | I-Connect007Estimated reading time: 1 minute
For PCB designers, producing a comprehensive data package is crucial. If even one important file is missing or output incorrectly, it can cause major delays and potentially ruin the experience for every stakeholder. Learn how to perfect your data package with I-Connect007’s most recent title: The Printed Circuit Designer’s Guide to… Producing the Perfect Data Package.
The Printed Circuit Designer’s Guide to… is an ongoing book series specifically dedicated to educating PCB designers and serves as a valuable resource for people seeking the most relevant design information available.
Written by Prototron Circuits’ Mark Thompson, an industry veteran with over 38 years of experience, this book describes exactly what a PCB fabricator requires in a design output package and explains the consequences of providing incomplete or inaccurate information. Mark also highlights the importance of earlier communication between the designer and fabricator.
Douglas Brooks, Ph.D., says, “Mark Thompson does an outstanding job detailing what needs to be included in the handoff between the board designer and fabricator. Understanding and following his advice will lead to a smooth transition between these two functions. His new book should be required reading for every designer.”
Readers will learn effective ways to eliminate discrepancies and errors, ensure project success, and reduce costs and wasted time.

September Design007 Magazine: Silicon to Systems
09/09/2024 | I-Connect007 Editorial TeamThe increase in complexity in electronics is driving technologists throughout the electronics supply chain to adopt a “silicon to systems” outlook. This month, we asked our expert contributors to weigh in on silicon to systems—what it means to PCB designers and design engineers, EDA companies, and the rest of the PCB supply chain—from soup to nuts.
Hidden Cost Drivers in PCB Design
09/05/2024 | Cherie Litson, CID+, Litson1 ConsultingI recently taught a CID+ course, and if you’ve ever taken a CID or CID+ course, you know that we discuss cost adders quite a bit. When I asked the class of 15 design engineers their ideas on the biggest cost adders, the first and strongest response: the project manager. Are you surprised by their answer? After over 40 years in the industry, I wasn’t. If you step back and look at the process of product development, you’ll see that many decisions that affect costs down the line really do take root with the project manager.

08/28/2024 | PCEAThe Printed Circuit Engineering Association (PCEA) has announced the PCB East 2025 Conference Task Group members. Troy Hopkins, senior hardware design engineer at Connect Tech Inc., will be leading the group as the chairman alongside nine other printed circuit industry veterans.
Target Condition: My Anti-venom to PCB Cost Adders
08/27/2024 | Kelly Dack -- Column: Target ConditionAs a kid, I remember long, hot, cross-country trips to the Midwest with my grandparents to visit relatives. Riding in the backseat of a 1970s station wagon without air conditioning, the only thing I had to look forward to was stopping at Stuckey’s in Oklahoma, which had a snake farm right next door. As luck would have it, after a hundred miles of passing signs advertising “Ramona’s Snake Farm,” Grandpa pulled in and made my trip come alive. I’d never seen a poisonous snake up close, and there were hundreds of them.
A French Design Community
08/21/2024 | Michelle Te, IPC CommunityThe French IPC Designers Council is a unique conglomerate of 250 members from all parts of the industry: EEs, designers, CAD engineers, PCB manufacturers, EMS suppliers, OEMs, and even some in component packaging, that encourages individuals to freely exchange their design issues without commercial considerations. Thomas Romont, a PCB manufacturer’s rep with more than 20 years of experience, especially in the design for manufacturing (DFM) process, leads this association with support from IPC.
