Boeing Partners With the World Energy Council to Advance Aerospace Energy Transitions

Boeing has become a Patron of the World Energy Council, marking the first aerospace company to partner with the organization to drive sustainable energy transitions. The Patron programme is the Council’s exclusive level for no more than 50 globally leading companies who commit to work with the Council on global issues and projects.
Patrons of the World Energy Council are a critical pillar of the organization and engage with the Council on global issues in support of its Humanising Energy vision. Boeing features as part of a new season of "Humanising Energy", a film series hosted by the World Energy Council and produced for Boeing by BBC StoryWorks. The film, entitled ‘The plane with a plan’ was launched last month.
Boeing Chief Sustainability Officer Chris Raymond said: "We are delighted to be working together with the World Energy Council community in pursuit of a more sustainable global energy ecosystem. Decarbonizing aerospace relies heavily on the energy transition and no entity or industry can bring that transition on by itself—we must work together."
Boeing is supporting the civil aviation industry’s goal of net zero by 2050 by purchasing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for its own operations, developing SAF roadmaps in regions across the globe, committing that its commercial airplanes will be compatible with 100% SAF by 2030 and developing partnerships across policy, aviation, energy and finance to accelerate the SAF ecosystem.
Dr Angela Wilkinson, Secretary General and CEO of the World Energy Council, said: “The enduring mission of the Council is to promote the benefits of sustainable energy production and use for all. Today this means securing more energy and wider access to affordable and climate resilient energy services and solutions for the development of everyone, everywhere. The best way to succeed is to involve multiple communities and industries, including hard-to-abate sectors like aviation. We are delighted to welcome Boeing into our global energy community to help us drive faster, fairer, more far-reaching energy transitions in all regions and for all people.”
Senior leadership from Boeing will join leaders from across the energy ecosystem at the Council’s 26th World Energy Congress in Rotterdam, 22-25 April 2024, to redesign energy for people and planet.
