Available pharmacological treatment for conditions such as chronic pain, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, and depression are not sufficient for all patients at all stages of treatment. More than 100 million people suffer from these conditions in the US alone. Though drug therapy, physiotherapy, and surgeries are effective treatment options, they are not suitable for all patients. Neurostimulation is a potential alternative for patients for whom the drug therapy or surgery is not effective.
Neurostimulation devices are implantable devices that help in the therapeutic activation of the nervous systems. These devices deliver electrical stimulation to the brain and nervous systems for the treatment of various types of neurological disorders such as pain, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, dystonia, and tremors. These devices target specific areas of the brain or spinal cord by blocking the pain messages before they reach the brain.
