The real cost to manufacture a PCB encompasses everything that goes into making the product: the materials and other value-added supplies, machine and personnel costs, and most importantly, your quality. A hard look at real costs seems wholly appropriate.
Alternate Metallization Processes
Traditional electroless copper and electroless copper immersion gold have been primary PCB plating methods for decades. But alternative plating metals and processes have been introduced over the past few years as miniaturization and advanced packaging continue to develop.

Sun Chemical to Showcase Wide Portfolio of Solutions for Printed Electronics at IDTechEx 2016
November 9, 2016 | Sun ChemicalEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
Sun Chemical will exhibit its latest offerings from its wide portfolio of solutions for printed electronics during IDTechEx Printed Electronics USA 2016 in Santa Clara, Calif. on November 16-17.
Visitors of booth #C15 will learn more about Sun Chemical’s recent acquisition of Gwent Electronic Materials Ltd., a leading manufacturer of solutions for the medical, biosensor and printed electronic markets. They will also be introduced to:
- a nanosilver ink designed for use with industry leading inkjet and aerosol jet systems
- technology which utilizes printed conductors on packaging to interact with touchscreen enabled devices, and
- a value package designed to speed the design and development of membrane touch switches.
“Our customers in the printed electronics market are looking for a partner that can provide the research and development of advanced and customized materials that are designed to support a comprehensive range of functions, including materials that support flexible electronics, interconnects, and sensors,” said Roy Bjorlin, Commercial Director, Sun Chemical Electronic Materials. “Visitors of our booth at the IDTechEx Printed Electronics USA 2016 can learn about Sun Chemical’s solutions for printed antenna, sensors, switches, solar and lighting. Our leading solutions in printed conductors, nanosilver and in-mold electronics continue to gain a solid foothold in these burgeoning applications.”
Sun Chemical to Showcase its Nanosilver Inks for Inkjet and Aerosol Jet Printing
Booth visitors will learn about Sun Chemical’s nanosilver ink designed for use with industry leading inkjet and aerosol jet systems. Sun Chemical’s nanosilver inks deliver the industry’s best performing low temperature sintering properties and the unique chemistry offers long open life, superior jetting performance, and compatibility with most commercial and industrial printheads. With Sun Chemical’s nanosilver inks, it now becomes possible to work with one nanosilver from prototype to production.
Taking Packaging to the Next Level by Interacting with Touchscreen Enabled Devices
During the show, Sun Chemical will showcase Touchcode, a series of printed conductors embedded in cards, labels and packaging that interact with touchscreen enabled devices, smartphones and tablets. More cost-effective than NFC or RFID and invisible unlike barcodes or QR codes, the technology from T+Sun, a partnership between Sun Chemical and T+Ink, effectively ensures brand authenticity as well as brand awareness and stronger promotions. Available in a range of formulations that are optimized for various printing processes, Touchcode technology offers brand owners with real time consumer data across all distribution channels.
Sun Chemical to Offer Value Package Material Set for Membrane Touch Switch
Sun Chemical will also highlight a value package during the show which consists of a complementary group of products designed to speed the design and development of membrane touch switches (MTS). The MTS Value Package includes screen printer silver filled conductors, carbon filled resistors and UV curable dielectric inks that deliver superior performance at a low cost. The MTS Value Package contains a matched set of products, chemistries and performance criteria that have been developed to assure users of consistent, reliable performance.
