Current IssueVoices of the Industry
We take the pulse of the PCB industry by sharing insights from leading fabricators and suppliers in this month's issue. We've gathered their thoughts on the new U.S. administration, spending, the war in Ukraine, and their most pressing needs. It’s an eye-opening and enlightening look behind the curtain.
The Essential Guide to Surface Finishes
We go back to basics this month with a recount of a little history, and look forward to addressing the many challenges that high density, high frequency, adhesion, SI, and corrosion concerns for harsh environments bring to the fore. We compare and contrast surface finishes by type and application, take a hard look at the many iterations of gold plating, and address palladium as a surface finish.
It's Show Time!
In this month’s issue of PCB007 Magazine we reimagine the possibilities featuring stories all about IPC APEX EXPO 2025—covering what to look forward to, and what you don’t want to miss.

Unimicron Germany to Rebuild Innerlayer Plant Destroyed by Fire
July 14, 2017 | Unimicron Corp.Estimated reading time: 1 minute

The first steps for the rebuild are made. Unimicron Germany GmbH (formerly known as RUWEL International), is one of the most important PCB producers in Europe and will invest several million Euros for the rebuild of the new innerlayer plant. The old plant including all machines was completely burned down in the night of December the 28th, 2016. Luckily nobody was injured.
“We have now begun with the demolition of the burned building”, explained Gerard van Dierendonck, CEO of Unimicron Germany GmbH. The whole 8,000 sqm innerlayer plant was destroyed by a fire at the end of 2016, “from beginning of March 2018 we want to start up the production on the same place where we left off”, he described the current planning.
Considerations to rebuild the factory elsewhere could not be implemented due to time constraint. By November this year the new building will be built at exact the same location. Gerard van Dierendonck announced, that “we plan to build the new innerlayer plant with state of the art machines.” It is planned, that mid of November the construction of the building will be completed, from March next year onwards the whole production should be running completely from the production site in Geldern again.
“Due to the fire, our innerlayer (masslam) production was no longer possible. After customer’s approval, we have temporarily shifted the production to our Unimicron plant in Kunshan, China. Since then, all our innerlayers are transported by air” explained the CEO, Gerard van Dierendonck.
“We look forward to the day when the production runs completely from Geldern again”. Customers from the fields of Automotive, Renewable Energy and Industry rely on the quality of the PCBs from Unimicron Germany GmbH.
"We want to keep our standing as one of the leading PCB companies in Europe and we fully rely on our location in Geldern, Germany, where we furthermore are one of the local biggest employers”, Mr. van Dierendonck underlines the importance to invest in the new plant. Until the planned production start there is still much to be done. The demolition and the planning of our new innerlayer plant are running at full speed. During the next months you can follow the progress of the works on the construction site webcam.
