Vision Engineering Opens New Global Headquarters
August 9, 2017 | Vision EngineeringEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
Vision Engineering Ltd., award winning manufacturer of ergonomic inspection and measurement microscopes, announces the opening of its new global headquarters in Surrey, United Kingdom. The 129,200 SF building replaces two buildings, a 33,000 SF production and design factory and a 28,000 SF commercial building.
Left- The original Vision Engineering factory founded in 1958. Right- The new 129,000 SF global headquarters built on the original site of the 1958 factory .
Vision Engineering was founded in 1958, by Rob Freeman, MBE, a toolmaker who worked as a race mechanic with the Jaguar Racing Team and where he developed a borescope for inspecting internal race engine parts. Now aged 87, Rob Freeman is still Chairman of the growing company and led the grand opening of his eponymous building in the presence of the mayor of Guildford, the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, invited guests and Vision Engineering employees from around the world.
The new complex has all company departments, including manufacturing, under one roof. This will facilitate closer collaboration to lead the way for future innovation within the inspection and measurement system marketplace. The modern design of the building is mostly open plan creating the feeling of space. The main entrance is circular, designed to resemble a microscope lens. Many of the materials used in the construction are sustainable.
Vision Engineering managing director, Mark Curtis commented on the new building, “Vision Engineering was born from the British car racing industry in the South of England. We are delighted to continue to grow our international business from our purpose-built R&D and manufacturing facility on the actual site where the original factory was located in 1958. We are immensely proud of our founder Rob Freeman, MBE, after whom our new headquarters is named, and look forward to continuing to play our part in the long tradition of high tech manufacturing and innovation.”
Vision Engineering holds several patents on its high-tech optical systems, which it supplies to organizations all over the world that require high specification, ergonomic inspection and measurement systems.
Currently, 120 employees are based within the Freeman Building. While over 80% of the products are designed, developed and manufactured within the new building, the Mantis Family of eyepiece-less microscopes will continue to be manufactured in the US headquarters located in New Milford, CT.
