The real cost to manufacture a PCB encompasses everything that goes into making the product: the materials and other value-added supplies, machine and personnel costs, and most importantly, your quality. A hard look at real costs seems wholly appropriate.
Alternate Metallization Processes
Traditional electroless copper and electroless copper immersion gold have been primary PCB plating methods for decades. But alternative plating metals and processes have been introduced over the past few years as miniaturization and advanced packaging continue to develop.

EIPC 50th Anniversary Conference Program Now Available
April 13, 2018 | EIPCEstimated reading time: Less than a minute
The past, the present and the future—these the three elements of EIPC’s 50th anniversary conference being held in Dusseldorf in June this year. Half a century has passed since EIPC was founded in the days when the PCB was more than just a commodity.
There will be a first-class show on June 21–22, when the conference on Day 1 culminates with a visit to Unimicron’s new multilayer factory in Geldern, the Tate Modern of the European PCB industry. This will be followed by a celebration dinner at the 14th Century listed and moated Walbeck Castle.
Day 1 will be the occasion in which Paul Waldner looks back over 50 years in the industry, while Hans Friedrichkreit unveils his metric crystal ball to compete with the imperial one that Walt Custer usually produces. From then on, there will be a wealth of technological discussions on topics such as traceability, PCB 4.0, and halogen-free laminates.
Day 2 is dedicated to flex for 5G, curved and stretchable PCBs, open-source language, organic surface preservatives, and lab-on-PCB technology, as well as the traditional glimpses into developments in applications, chemistries and supply chain management.

EIPC Issues Letter of Urgency
04/29/2024 | EIPCAlun Morgan, president of EIPC, issued a letter last week in an effort to raise awareness of the state of PCB manufacturing in Europe. He writes, "The European PCB manufacturing industry and its supply base has been steadily shrinking since the dot com crash at the start of the millennium. European demand for PCBs and assemblies has, however, continued to grow, thus creating an ever-widening gap between European domestic capacity and consumption. The risks posed by this imbalanced supply and demand pattern came into sharp focus during the Covid-19 pandemic which caused chaos in extended supply chains across the world and resulted in widespread shortages."

Electronica 2022: Happy to Be Back in Munich
11/21/2022 | Pete Starkey, I-Connect007As we stepped out of the hotel into the drizzling rain, we were relieved that it wasn’t snow. Looking down the escalator into the U2 platform in Munich’s Hauptbahnhof central station early on the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 15 and observing the mass of humanity pushing and shoving to cram into trains to the exhibition centre, it appeared that a significant proportion of the international electronics industry had gathered to attend electronica 2022, co-located with SEMICON Europa and recognised as the world’s leading trade fair and conference for electronics.
