Rework Companies Merge: FINETECH GmbH Acquires Martin GmbH
November 14, 2009 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
MUNICH — FINETECH GmbH aquired Martin GmbH, a manufacturer of rework and dispensing equipment located in Wesseling, Germany. The transaction was announced during productronica 2009, where both companies exhibited. Chris Underhill, Finetech, noted the complementary systems that Martin will bring to the Finetech rework and repair lines, as well as the cultural similarities for the two companies. The integration is planned for January 2010.Martin is a well-recognized rework systems provider throughout the world, without a large presence in the U.S., Underhill commented, adding that Martin systems will be demonstrated alongside Finetech machines at the company’s demo centers in Arizona and New Hampshire. Finetech will also create new distribution channels for the Martin brand. Martin’s product manufacturing will remain in Wesseling, and the brand name will be preserved. The well-established FINETECH sales, service and support organization will be supplemented by the existing Martin structure to provide an enhanced worldwide presence. FINETECH CEO Gunter Kuerbis says that the Martin products complement FINETECH’s range of systems sold globally under the flagship FINEPLACER name. Martin CEO Bernhard Martin anticipates that the addition of its dispensing technology, a core capability of the company, will provide a broader product offering to FINETECH’s already significant position in the rework and micro-assembly arena. Martin also adds infrared (IR) underboard heating capabilities to the Finetech portfolio, though the companies say it is too early to estimate how technological competencies will be shared across the brands. With the acquisition, FINETECH expandes its rework product range, from simple hand soldering technology and basic entry-level rework systems to advanced rework and bonding platforms for complex applications.
