Victrex Opens Second Polymer Plant
October 9, 2007 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
THORNTON CLEVELEYS, U.K. Victrex plc opened a polymer manufacturing plant, designed to use minimal energy and water, at its main production facility in Lancashire, U.K. The plant increased production capacity for Victrex PEEK polymers by about 50%, and establishes a second, stand-alone source for the products.
The company invested about $65 million in the facility, which includes an improved effluent-treatment technology, full automation, and a central control room. The effluent-treatment system also will be implemented in Victrex's existing facility. The added production capacity totals 1,450 tonnes (1,600 tons), and requires eight additional staffers. Victrex also opened three apprenticeships at the facility. Production at the new facility comes under Victrex's existing ISO 9001 quality certification.
It will produce PEEK and PEEK-based products, including VICOTE coatings and APTIV film, as well as specialty-grade lines, such as PEEK-HT. For more information on PEEK-based lines, visit www.victrex.com.
