August 9, 2007 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
TOKYO OMRON Corporation established an automotive electronics sales and production subsidiary, Omron Automotive Components India PVT Ltd. (OAI), in Haryana, India, citing capital investments by major auto makers in the country. As Omron's first India investment, the division will operate as a direct subsidiary of its automotive electronics components business (AEC).
Initial operations will occur through a partnership with ASTI Electronics India PVT Ltd. (AEIPL), a subsidiary of ASTI Corporation. AEIPL will manufacture Omron's advanced components and systems for vehicle safety and reliability elements until OAI constructs a production facility. OAI will manage quality control (QC) and sales and marketing operations. Mass production is expected by the second half of 2008.
Omron notes that it has received orders from major Japanese auto makers through the India subsidiary. The capital investment to establish an India branch totaled 150 million rupees ($3.4 million). Omron recorded $6.2 billion in 2006 revenues.
