Sunburst Adds Selective Soldering Capacity
June 18, 2007 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
WEST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. Sunburst EMS acquired an automated selective soldering system to augment its PCB assembly and processing capabilities. The EMS provider added a KISS 102 system from ACE Production Technologies (Spokane Valley, Wash.) to improve solder joint consistency on thru-hole, odd-form, connector, and related devices.
The KISS 102 offers swappable solder pots for fast changeover from tin/lead to lead-free assembly. Fountain position, preheat time, traverse speed, and wave height are variable for each device, and the system features programmable motion and PC-based controls. The selective soldering system's spray fluxer allows flux application based on soldering locations. Adding the KISS system enhances production capacity at our facility, and allows further automation of the assembly process, said Andrew Chase, president and CEO, Sunburst. Automating thru-hole and odd-form soldering eliminates variations caused by operators and increases product consistency, he added.
