EU Requests Input on RoHS, WEEE
May 1, 2007 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
BANNOCKBURN, Ill., and BRUSSELS, Belgium The EU, through research teams from Environment Consultancy and Assistance (ECOLAS) and Risk & Policy Analysts (RPA), will conduct studies on its RoHS and WEEE Directives, reports IPC Association Connecting Electronics Industries. ECOLAS and RPA will deploy two questionnaires to address RoHS and WEEE issues impacting the electronics industry. Responses can be confidential or public.
The RoHS study aims to quantify the economic and environmental impacts of the directive through a cost/benefit analysis. Members of the industry affected by RoHS can respond to questions about compliance costs and benefits, technical costs of RoHS phase-outs, and social impacts, with a company profile section.
The WEEE study will assess impacts on innovation and competitiveness and should identify critical positive and negative factors and requirements. Those responding to the WEEE questionnaire will be queried on company details, overall WEEE costs to the company, R&D costs, producer-responsibility schemes, and trade issues.
The studies may be used toward revisions in either or both directives by the EU. To participate, visit the IPC questionnaire Website, leadfree.ipc.org, by May 25, 2007.
