Rework System Protects SMDs from Heat
March 9, 2007 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
SPOKANE, Wash. A.C.E. Production Technologies introduced the ACE KISS-100 rework soldering machine to reduce thermal damage to SMT components during connector, odd-form, and thru-hole rework. The lead-free capable system is contact based (solder fountain).
It comprises a standard KISS solder pot and pump, along with a universal PCB holding and indexing nest and vertical/tilt motion control. Angular extraction (tilt) from the solder wave allows materials to drain off leads, preventing bridging and icicle formation.
Manual PCB indexing allows operators to step and repeat over an X/Y matrix. Controls adjust immersion depth, dwells in solder "tilt" extraction, travel distance and speed, solder temperature, and wave height. The machine accepts PCB panels with one or multiple boards, up to 18 × 24".
