Acquisition Increases Thermo's European Presence
January 30, 2007 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
WALTHAM, Mass. Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. acquired SwissAnalytic Group of Basel, Switzerland. The Swiss company owns Spectronex AG and Flux Instruments AG, with combined revenue in fiscal year 2006 totaling about $22 million.
The acquisition enables Thermo to increase direct sales, demonstration capabilities, and visibility in the region as it expands its field-sales presence in Europe. Spectronex, a mass spectrometry, chromatography, and surface science instrumentation supplier, serves Switzerland, Austria, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.
Flux Instruments manufactures high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) pumps and software, and will join Thermo's current HPLC and liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LCMS) business. Thermo will incorporate Flux's complementary technologies and design knowledge through intellectual property (IP) and future product development. Other businesses under the Thermo group include Thermo Electron, Fisher Chemical, Metavac, and others.
