KEMET Releases "Green" Capacitors
December 1, 2006 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
GREENVILLE, S.C. KEMET Corporation introduced RoHS-compliant versions of its commercial-molded radial, and high-voltage radial capacitors, as part of a push for environmentally friendly component lines.
The expanded product line complies with existing and pending RoHS Directives, said Mary Carter-Berrios, manager for environmental product stewardship. Two ceramic-leaded lines, ceramic high-voltage leaded series C6xx with MIL-PRF-49467 lead spacing, and ceramic commercial molded radial leaded series C052C and C062C meet RoHS restrictions and perform comparably to the company's non-compliant counterparts.
The C6xx capacitors incorporate an internal cascading electrode design that divides voltage across the device into smaller voltages for each internal section, reportedly creating less stress on the dielectric. The C052C and C062C capacitors use MLCC constructions in voltage ratings of 50 200V. End uses include industrial, avionics, satellite communications, high-voltage power supply, and rugged defense devices.
