3-D LED Array Packages Offer Wide Viewing Angle
February 21, 2006 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
SAN FRANCISCO — Mixing high-brightness LEDs with 3-D packaging technology, TT electronics OPTEK Technology's Lednium Series 10-W LED array packages offer a full 120° viewing angle for its array of amber, blue, green, red, or white LEDs. The devices achieve an output of up to 330 lm with nine 1-W LEDs mounted in a 1.3 in2 anodized aluminum package, with a board-mounted profile of less than .5".
These LED assemblies also provide different parallel-serial connections that enable the operation of three, six, or all nine of the mounted LEDs, enabling variance of light output and power consumption. DC forward current is 1.05 A, with peak pulsed forward current of 3 A. Typical forward voltage characteristics range from 6.3–9.25 V (color-dependent), and reverse voltage for all devices is 15 V. Maximum allowable junction temperature is 130°C (average thermal resistance junction-to-board is 5°C/W), and operating temperature range is -50° to 80°C.
