Soft Termination System Guards Against Crack Failures
March 3, 2005 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Driven by demands from the automotive industry for more reliable components, AVX Corp. has developed FlexiTerm, a soft termination system that adds a flexible termination layer to the component to ensure maintained electrical integrity when external forces are applied.
FlexiTerm offers a minimum flexure of 5 mm without internal cracks, and can achieve 3000 temperature cycles, when compared to the industry standard of 1000 cycles. Ideal for applications such as depanelization in high-flexure-stress circuit boards, variable temperature applications and automotive applications, FlexiTerm's flexible termination comprises a conductive polymer used in conjunction with base metal electrode (BME) technology. The conductive polymer coats a copper termination plated with nickel and tin. 0603 to 1812 case sizes and voltages from 6.3 to 100 V are available.
