SMTA Announces Certification Program Dates and Locations
February 1, 2005 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
MINNEAPOLIS — The SMTA has announced the dates and locations for its Certification program. Each program, one for SMT Processes and one for Six Sigma Green Belt, is a three-day workshop consisting of refresher topics and both open and closed book examinations.
The workshop, as well as the exam, assumes that the participant has at least two years of SMT experience and has an educational background equivalent to a bachelor's degree in engineering or science, two years or more of college in a technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
SMTA Certification in 2005 is planned for the following dates and locations:
*April 12-14 (Processes), Celestica Inc., Arden Hills, Minn.
*May 3-5 (Processes and Six Sigma), Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, Boston, Mass., in conjunction with SMTA Boston/NEPCON East/Electro
*May 17-19 (Processes), Place Bonaventure, Montreal, Quebec, in conjunction with SMTA Montreal/ Advanced Manufacturing Expo
*September 26-29 (Processes and Six Sigma), Donald Stephens Convention Center, Rosemont, Ill., in conjunction with SMTA International/Assembly Technology Expo (ATExpo)
*November 3-5 (Processes), Doubletree Hotel, San Jose, Calif., in conjunction with the International Wafer-Level Packaging Congress (IWLPC)
Other locations with dates to be confirmed include Baltimore, Md., and Hong Kong, China.
SMTA Certification is not an entry-level program. Basic algebra and statistics will be used in the workshop and examination. The examination is "competitive," in that it requires written answers and some calculations.
The intent of this procedure is to enable the students to establish competitive credentials as "certified" by the SMTA in SMT Processes or SMT Six Sigma Green Belt. Visit www.smta.org/certification/certification.cfm for full details, and contact SMTA administrator JoAnn Stromberg with any questions at (952) 920-7682, or joann@smta.org.
