IPC, CAT Inc.'s PCQR2 Database Continues to Grow
June 2, 2004 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
Northbrook, Ill. — IPC — Association Connecting Electronics Industries and Conductor Analysis Technologies Inc. (CAT Inc.) have announced that their joint Process Capability, Quality and Relative Reliability (PCQR2) Benchmark Database now includes 11 active subscribers, with the recent addition of PCB supplier Tyco Electronics Printed Circuit Group and a major North American original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
In addition, test results from 56 submittals have been posted to the PCQR2 Database since the beginning of January 2004. The total number of submittals has grown to 135 since the establishment of the database in late 2001. A breakdown by design type and PCB supplier geographical location can be obtained at www.pcbquality.com. CAT Inc. and the data it provides through the PCQR2 Database is a direct complement to Tyco Electronics Printed Circuit Group's Corporate "Best Practice" Program for continuous improvement and technology readiness across multiple manufacturing sites.
The PCQR2 Database provides a detailed snapshot of supplier fabrication capabilities in five different areas: conductor/space formation, via structure formation, via structure reliability, soldermask registration and controlled impedance.
OEMs and EMS companies benefit from the PCQR2 Benchmark Database by having the added ability to improve board design for manufacturability, lower sourcing costs, raise reliability and assure on-time delivery. Subscribers also are able to collect quantifiable, statistically significant data on supplier process capabilities; find, screen and select PCB manufacturers based on technology requirements; tailor design for manufacturability (DFM) guidelines; and obtain quantitative data for roadmaps. Conversely, participating PCB manufacturers receive access to potential customers seeking suppliers of excellent quality and obtain detailed quantitative data on their company's manufacturing process capabilities. Participants can also lower costs by producing one standardized set of test panels, rather than expensive customized panels for a variety of current and potential customers.CAT Inc. is a global provider of market-critical data used by designers, purchasers and manufacturers of PCBs, and by material and equipment suppliers to the printed circuit industry. The products and services provide quantitative data on printed circuit manufacturing capability, quality and reliability.
