Plexus Receives Innovation Supplier Award from Bombardier Transportation
January 19, 2017 | Plexus Corp.Estimated reading time: 1 minute
Plexus Corp. has been recognized for its support and innovative ideas by the Rail Control Solutions (RCS) Division of leading rail manufacturing company, Bombardier Transportation.
Plexus received the Division's inaugural Innovation Supplier Award for providing a new effective coating solution for Bombardier’s Balise2010 PCBA (printed circuit board assembly), which not only increased the quality and reliability of the product but also reduced manufacturing costs. This was achieved by opting to configure an automated spraying and curing process to replace the more traditional dip coating system.
This award is in recognition of work completed at the Plexus site in Oradea, Romania. Plexus’ relationship with RCS initially began with manufacturing in Penang, Malaysia, and it has now grown to be a global engagement with Plexus supporting their operations in the Americas, Asia, EMEA and Australia from our manufacturing sites in Europe, Asia and the US, as well as providing development support and rapid prototyping.
Peter Cedervall, President of Rail Control Solutions at Bombardier Transportation, presented the award to Oliver Mihm, Plexus Regional President in EMEA, who received it on behalf of his team.
"We are honored to be the first recipients of this Innovation award,' commented Oliver Mihm, "and I accept it on behalf of the Plexus engineers who have worked hard on this project. It is an example of how our facility in Oradea is able to innovate to deliver a uniquely targeted product in a timely and cost effective manner."
Plexus is well positioned to support customers in EMEA with design and rapid prototyping at its Livingston facility, manufacturing and aftermarket services at Kelso in the UK, a design center in Darmstadt, Germany and design and manufacturing in Oradea, Romania. With 26 facilities across the globe providing access to 14,000 employees, including 470 engineers, Plexus is able to deliver extensive expertise in product development (software, digital and analog hardware, mechanical design, industrial design and PCB design), commercialization (e.g. Test Strategy, Design for Excellence Services, Design Assurance), manufacturing and aftermarket services.

Critical Minerals: The New Power Play in Global Trade
10/13/2025 | Marcy LaRont, I-Connect007Access to critical minerals essential for electronics manufacturing, and China’s monopoly of them, is increasingly under scrutiny, with gallium (Ga) and germanium (Ge)at the forefront of this discourse. However, all critical minerals imported from China share a similar narrative, and understanding the implications of this dependency and the risks to both U.S. commercial and defense sectors has created an urgent need for a comprehensive electronics strategy to secure and diversify access to these vital minerals. In this candid interview, USPAE Executive Director Jim Will discusses the issues and the mitigation steps that must be taken to adequately address them.
Interposers, Substrates, and Advanced Manufacturing
10/13/2025 | Marcy LaRont, I-Connect007I attend a lot of industry trade shows and conferences. Lately, during conversations with technologists, I’ve noticed that there is some confusion about what exactly constitutes an interposer. One question I hear every so often is, “Are all interposers substrates?” The short answer to that question is no. But some interposers are, in fact, full substrates.
