Flex Launches Renewable Energy Storage Solution
April 19, 2017 | FlexEstimated reading time: 1 minute
Flex, the Sketch-to-Scale solutions provider that designs and builds intelligent products for a connected world, has expanded its contributions to the renewable energy industry with the introduction of energy storage solutions to address the challenge of integrating solar and wind power into the energy grid.
Advanced Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are increasingly important assets that complement the growth of the renewable energy industry by storing energy when production exceeds demand, and by providing services, such as frequency control, to the grid.
The Flex solution is a versatile, standardized energy storage platform for utility, commercial and industrial users. Supporting multiple cell technologies and designed to maximize energy and power density of BESS deployments, the platform is engineered to comply with the exacting standards of the industry, while providing the highest levels of safety and security.
“In designing our energy storage solution, we stressed ease-of-installation, minimizing complexity and facilitating rapid deployments,” said Scott Graybeal, senior vice president of Flex Energy Solutions. “By introducing a standardized, cost-effective and easily-deployed solution, we are enabling wide-scale implementation, with the hopes of further stimulating growth of the renewable energy industry.”
In collaboration with Renewable Energy Systems (RES) – one of the top battery energy storage integrators and renewable energy companies in North America – Flex has completed the first successful deployment of an energy storage solution for the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) at its National Wind Technology Center (NWTC) in Boulder, Colorado.

Nolan’s Notes: Coming to Terms With AI
05/07/2024 | Nolan Johnson -- Column: Nolan's NotesHow fast do things move in the world of data analytics? Here’s an example. We’ve been planning this issue on artificial intelligence for the past few months, and, in fact, I had already written this column about a month ago. Then I went to IPC APEX EXPO and upended it all. I originally had compared AI to drag racing in that (CPU) horsepower and new (data) vehicles have steadily delivered higher performance competition. That seemed pretty accurate given how generative AI models dominated the popular media with amazing results—and sometimes spectacular crashes.
