Alpha to Feature Recycling Services and Innovative Products at Upper Midwest SMTA Expo & Tech Forum
May 24, 2017 | Alpha Assembly SolutionsEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
Alpha Assembly Solutions will feature its Recycling Services in addition to new material set combinations at the upcoming Upper Midwest SMTA Expo and Tech Forum to be held June 22th at the DoubleTree Minneapolis-Park Place.
Alpha, a part of the MacDermid Performance Solutions group of businesses, will showcase its ALPHA Recycling Services capabilities. "Alpha is committed to helping our customers by providing them with cost-efficient options to responsibly dispose of their solder dross and waste," said Harold Sneath, Eastern Regional Reclaim Manager for Alpha. "Our goal is to minimize a company’s environmental liability while maximizing the financial return for their reclamation efforts."
Alpha's new material set combinations represent various pastes, tacky fluxes, cored wire, and wave soldering fluxes that are tested with one another to achieve greater reliability. "Reliability is a core concern in the industry," said Jerry Heinz. "Alpha has done the testing necessary to demonstrate which material pairings will produce the greatest reliability, relieving our customers from much of the trial and error can occur when selecting products for specific electronics assembly processes."
Representing Alpha at the show will be Jerry Heinz, Alpha District Sales Manager and Harold Sneath, Eastern Regional Alpha Reclaim Manager. Joining Alpha will be Kris Meacham, owner of JW Sales and Jeff Benke, JW Sales Sales Engineer. JW Sales is one of Alpha's strategic sales partners in this region.

Knocking Down the Bone Pile: Gold Mitigation for Class 2 Electronics
05/07/2025 | Nash Bell -- Column: Knocking Down the Bone PileIn electronic assemblies, the integrity of connections between components is paramount for ensuring reliability and performance. Gold embrittlement and dissolution are two critical phenomena that can compromise this integrity. Gold embrittlement occurs when gold diffuses into solder joints or alloys, resulting in mechanical brittleness and an increased susceptibility to cracking. Conversely, gold dissolution involves the melting away of gold into solder or metal matrices, potentially altering the electrical and mechanical properties of the joint.
