SCS to Present on Using Conformal Coatings to Mitigate System Failures at Upcoming Webinar
June 20, 2017 | Specialty Coating SystemsEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
Specialty Coating Systems (SCS) will participate in a Machine Design-sponsored webinar on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at 2 p.m. EDT. The webinar, entitled "Using Conformal Coatings to Mitigate System Failures," will be presented by SCS' Tim Seifert, Military & Avionics Market Manager, and Rakesh Kumar, Ph.D., Vice President of Technology.
Across markets, new technologies are routinely developed to solve problems and add value for end-users; however, they cannot do so if there is premature failure in the field. From outer space and the deep sea to the human body, conformal coatings are often used to protect technologies from their surrounding environments. Not all conformal coatings, though, are the same. To mitigate product failure, and protect and enhance both products and manufacturer reputations, designers often turn to Parylene coatings to provide reliable, lasting protection.
This webinar will offer an opportunity to learn more about Parylene conformal coatings – how they are applied, common applications and uses, and an overview of their properties and benefits, including:
- Truly conformal coverage, with no air-gaps or voids
- Excellent moisture and chemical barrier
- High dielectric strength in ultra-thin films
- Thermal stability up to 350°C long-term (450°C short-term)
- Dry-film lubricity/low coefficient of friction
The presenters also will discuss recent advances in adhesion technologies, which have significantly increased bonding strength of Parylenes to highly-polished metal surfaces and polymeric substrates, and the role the polymers play in advanced micro- and nano-level technologies.
Dr. Kumar is the Vice President of Technology for Specialty Coating Systems where he leads the R&D group and manages Parylene research and development activities worldwide. Seifert is the Military & Avionics Market Manager for Specialty Coating Systems where his focus includes global expansion of SCS' electronics, automotive, aerospace and military market activities and new applications for Parylene conformal coatings.
For more than 45 years, Parylene conformal coatings have enhanced the reliability of numerous devices and components across the electronics, automotive, military, medical device and aerospace industries, including circuit boards, sensors, MEMS, semiconductors, LEDs, implantable devices, elastomers and more.
