Dr. Ranko Vujosevic to Present 'Lights Out Electronic Assembly' at SMTA South China
July 11, 2017 | Optimal Electronics CorporationEstimated reading time: 1 minute

Optimal Electronics Corp., a provider of smart factory software solutions for the electronics assembly industry, has announced that the company's founder and CEO Ranko Vujosevic, Ph.D., will present at the SMTA South China event next month, which will be held at the Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center in Shenzhen, China.
Dr. Vujosevic will present the paper entitled, "Lights Out Electronic Assembly" on August 29, 2017 at 11:40 am local time in Booth 1T11, Hall 1.
Lights out electronic assembly is the ability to run printed circuit board (PCB) assembly lines unattended by operators for an extended period of time. The advantages of lights out electronics assembly are increased productivity, reduced costs (labor and energy) and increased customer satisfaction by delivering products on time.
This paper describes the challenges in achieving lights out electronics assembly, proposes the use of different modern technologies to reach that goal, and proposes a design of an electronics assembly line that can run without operators.
Dr. Vujosevic founded Optimal Electronics in 1996 and remains the visionary behind the value Optimal Electronics brings to its customers. By working directly with customers to understand their most difficult challenges, he guides the company's engineering team to translate those requirements into solutions. Prior to founding Optimal Electronics, he worked as a Research Scientist at the University of Iowa's Center for Computer Aided Design. Dr. Vujosevic earned his B.Sc. (University of Belgrade, 1983) and M.Sc. (Vanderbilt University, 1989) in Mechanical Engineering and Ph.D. (University of Iowa, 1992) in Industrial Engineering.

Critical Minerals: The New Power Play in Global Trade
10/13/2025 | Marcy LaRont, I-Connect007Access to critical minerals essential for electronics manufacturing, and China’s monopoly of them, is increasingly under scrutiny, with gallium (Ga) and germanium (Ge)at the forefront of this discourse. However, all critical minerals imported from China share a similar narrative, and understanding the implications of this dependency and the risks to both U.S. commercial and defense sectors has created an urgent need for a comprehensive electronics strategy to secure and diversify access to these vital minerals. In this candid interview, USPAE Executive Director Jim Will discusses the issues and the mitigation steps that must be taken to adequately address them.
