Data I/O and DigiCert Partner to Enable DigiCert Certificate Signing Services
September 19, 2018 | Data I/O CorporationEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
Data I/O Corporation and DigiCert are partnering to enable secure provisioning of semiconductor devices for IoT applications on Data I/O’s SentriX Secure Provisioning System.
With the market for secure elements and secure microcontrollers used in IoT applications anticipated to grow to 4 billion units over the next 5 years, the need for OEMs to design security into their products has never been greater. This growth is reflective of a broader industry trend towards hardware based security using secure elements or secure microcontrollers for key storage with cloud access and software-based certificate distribution. DigiCert’s IoT PKI services, featuring certificate-based authentication built to scale for any-sized deployment from the world’s leading and largest certificate provider for global business, work in conjunction with Data I/O’s SentriX Secure Provisioning System to enable IoT device OEMs of any size and volume.
“Security has long been critical for the success of IoT applications. Certificate-based authentication, encryption and integrity between devices form the foundation for a secure IoT ecosystem,” said Mike Nelson, vice president of IoT security at DigiCert. “Our collaboration with Data I/O enables any OEM, regardless of size, volume or in-house security expertise to provision certificates during manufacturing.”
“The need to secure IoT devices is no longer a debatable point. OEMs of any size are challenged with how to design and produce secure devices. Data I/O is excited to collaborate with DigiCert to provide OEMs a reliable method to obtain, design-in and provision certificates into a wide array of secure ICs,” said Anthony Ambrose, president and CEO of Data I/O. “Data I/O’s SentriX Security Provisioning Platform provides an end-to-end security provisioning solution that is equally suited for provisioning one device or millions of devices.”
About SentriX
The SentriX Platform provides a trusted, secured and cost-effective provisioning solution for OEMs of any size to embed a hardware-based root of trust in silicon during the manufacturing flow for their IoT products. This process of provisioning silicon devices enables OEMs to add their own unique identity which is cryptographically tied to an embedded hardware based root-of-trust and can prevent unauthorized firmware from executing on the device. An IoT product secured in this way also enables OEMs to provide secure updates to their products in the field. Hardware based security enabled by the SentriX system also ensures supply chain integrity during the manufacturing process. Unauthorized production and cloning are prevented with this approach. The SentriX Platform provides a secure manufacturing process for a wide variety of secure semiconductor devices.
