Orange County Chapter of the DC Designers Council Meeting January 22
January 15, 2019 | Scott McCurdy, Freedom CAD ServicesEstimated reading time: 1 minute
The Orange County Chapter of the DC Designers Council will hold its January Lunch ‘n’ Learn meeting January 22, John Carney, an application engineer at Cadence Design Systems, will be the featured presenter. He has an EE degree and supports all of the Allegro and Sigrity products.
John will be presenting on two topics:
First presentation:
“Signal Integrity Effects of Different PCB Structures”
This presentation will discuss the following:
- Return path vias for single-ended and differential pairs.
- How the void around the differential via pair structure effects signal integrity.
- How back-drilling effects signal integrity and an eye diagram.
- Fiber weave effects.
- Tabbed routing.
- Inductive compensation.
Second presentation:
“Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Basics, and How it Will Affect PCB Design”
This presentation will discuss the following:
- Machine Learning vs Artificial intelligence vs deep learning.
- How a machine “learns”
- PCB based examples of different types of Machine Learning.
- DARPA’s plans for AI and PCB design
- Other examples from industry leaders
Reserve a spot on your calendar for Tuesday, January 22 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm for this educational “Lunch ‘n’ Learn” event.

Driving Innovation: Traceability in PCB Production
05/29/2025 | Kurt Palmer -- Column: Driving InnovationTraceability across the entire printed circuit board production process is an increasingly important topic among established manufacturers and companies considering new PCB facilities. The reasons are apparent: Automatic loading of part programs, connection with MES systems and collection of production data, and compliance with Industry 4.0 requirements
Pluritec: Growth Depends on Developing Next-gen Products
05/15/2025 | Marcy LaRont, PCB007 MagazineMaurizio Bonati, VP of sales at Pluritec, says a new generation of products has driven strong business performance and a significant backlog. However, there’s a concern about the potential negative impact of tariffs. Pluritec is taking proactive measures to minimize these effects by focusing on enhancing equipment capabilities, automating processes, and expanding customer support.
Driving Innovation: Registration in PCB Production Throughout the Process
05/06/2025 | Simon Khesin -- Column: Driving InnovationPCB manufacturing is a fascinating industry where multiple disciplines—chemical, mechanical, and optical processes—intersect. Each field plays a crucial role, and missing even one step can significantly impact production and yield. In the realm of mechanical and optical processes, one of the most critical aspects influencing the final result—especially in complex PCB designs—is registration.
Real Time with... IPC APEX EXPO 2025: Revolutionizing PCB Manufacturing with Laser Technology from MKS' ESI
04/16/2025 | Real Time with...IPC APEX EXPOIn this interview, Barry Matties speaks with Casey Krueger from MKS' ESI. MKS' ESI focuses on laser-based micro machining for PCBs, especially in HDI and IC substrates. The Geode CO2 drilling system, launched in 2019, uses AOD technology to transform the market. Trends show a shift toward smaller vias for advanced packaging, with laser drilling concentrated in Asia. North America sees rising investments in laser tech, prioritizing quality, productivity, and energy efficiency, while AI integration boosts ESI's operations.
