SMTA Releases Two New Online Training Courses
May 15, 2019 | SMTAEstimated reading time: 1 minute
The Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA) announced the recent release of Cleaning 101 and Rework 101, the latest in a series of online training courses on the fundamentals of electronics assembly. The courses will be useful for equipment operators, technicians, and engineers new to the industry that want to understand more about the soldering process and who have a basic familiarity with the equipment.
The Cleaning 101 course addresses what, why, and how to clean electronic assemblies as well as material compatibility and how to ensure cleanliness. Industry veteran Michael Konrad, Aqueous Technologies, instructs the course providing practical insight at every step. Cleaning 101 was developed and peer-reviewed by Martin Anselm, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT); Mike Bixenman, KYZEN Corporation; Charles Brown; Mike Konrad, Aqueous Technologies; Ravi Parthasarathy and Sal Sparacino, ZESTRON Americas.
The Rework 101 course addresses temperature considerations, moisture sensitivity, equipment, basic process steps, board repair, acceptance criteria, and it outlines the difference between rework, repair, and modification. Examples of rework of various surface mount and insertion mount components are highlighted. Kris Roberson, STI Electronics, Inc., narrates the course. Rework 101 was developed and peer-reviewed by Martin Anselm, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT); Charles Brown; Ray Cirimele, STI Electronics, Inc.; Miguel Colomer, VI Technology; Natasha Denison, Finetech; Richard Etchells, Electronic Technology Resource Partners; Adrienne Gerard, Finetech; Viswanadham Puligandla; Pat Scott, STI Electronics, Inc.; Bob Wettermann, BEST Inc.; and Ed Zamborsky, Metcal.
The SMTA Training Committee, led by Martin Anselm, Ph.D., Rochester Institute of Technology, is responsible for developing and reviewing all course materials for the SMTA online training program.
