IEC Electronics to Build $22M Manufacturing Facility in New York
June 11, 2019 | New York State GovernmentEstimated reading time: 6 minutes
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has announced the groundbreaking of IEC Electronics Corporation's new, state-of-the-art facility in Newark, Wayne County. The electronic manufacturing solutions provider plans to create up to 362 new jobs and retain 463 positions at the new 150,000-square-foot facility located at the Silver Hill Technology Park. IEC has already added 175 jobs at its current facility in Newark over the last 18 months. The company had considered moving out of New York State, but chose to remain in the region with support from the Governor and Empire State Development. IEC plans to move to and begin operations at the new facility in early 2020.
"New York is committed to working with established and innovative businesses as they expand and grow to ensure secure, good-paying jobs remain in our Upstate communities," Governor Cuomo said. "By investing in IEC Electronics, we are helping this long-standing, successful community business evolve, resulting in the creation of hundreds of top-quality jobs that will continue to move the Finger Lakes region forward."
"This new manufacturing facility advances the growth of the tech industry in the Finger Lakes," said Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul. "IEC Electronics' facility will create and retain hundreds of good jobs in Wayne County and expand the company's footprint providing electronic manufacturing solutions. We are committed to continuing to invest in successful companies like IEC to create more opportunities and strengthen the economy of the region."
For 50 years, IEC Electronics has been providing solutions to industry leading companies in the medical, industrial, aerospace and defense sectors. The company is a provider of electronic contract manufacturing services such as printed circuit board assembly, cable and wire harness assembly and precision metalworking for life-saving and mission-critical products. They specialize in providing technical solutions for the custom manufacturing of complex full system assemblies with advanced engineering support and state-of-the-art laboratory services, including risk mitigation related to counterfeit component detection.
Empire State Development is providing up to $2 million through a Finger Lakes Forward Upstate Revitalization Initiative Grant and up to $3 million through the Excelsior Jobs Program in exchange for IEC's job creation commitments.
Rochester Gas & Electric and the New York State Electric and Gas Corporation offered up to $670,000 in assistance for the project. Wayne County also provided incentives for the venture and the Greater Rochester Enterprise was instrumental in helping the company remain in the Finger Lakes region. The total cost for the relocation project is approximately $22 million.
Empire State Development President, CEO & Commissioner Howard Zemsky said, "The decision by IEC Electronics to grow in Wayne County, instead of innovating elsewhere, reflects both the region's strengths and New York State's strategic commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment that leads to job creation and retention."
IEC Electronics President & CEO Jeffrey T. Schlarbaum said, "IEC has had a longstanding presence in the Rochester area and we're excited for this opportunity to establish a new corporate headquarters, continuing to grow our business in a custom-designed, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, while remaining in this great community. We have built our reputation as a premier electronics manufacturing service provider for life-saving and mission critical products. We'd like to thank Governor Cuomo and Empire State Development for their support and assistance enabling us to reinvest in upstate New York to continue IEC's long and successful history as a Newark based company.
Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council Co-Chairs Community College President Anne Kress and Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Bob Duffy said, "We thank Governor Cuomo for his continued efforts aimed at bolstering the Upstate economy. The Finger Lakes Forward Upstate Revitalization Initiative is doing exactly what it was designed to do—help well-established companies like IEC Electronics as it continues to grow, ensuring that it remains an integral part of our region's economic future "
Congressman John Katko said, "IEC Electronics is a major contributor to Wayne County's economy, providing hundreds of quality jobs and creating excellent products distributed around the world. I am proud to have IEC Electronics headquartered in our community and I was thrilled today to be a part of the groundbreaking today on the company's new manufacturing facility and corporate headquarters."

It means local jobs for local people, and it ensures our communities can continue to thrive and our local economy can grow. The construction of a new, state-of-the-art facility sends a strong message that manufacturers can succeed in our region. I thank President Jeffrey Schlarbaum and IEC Electronics for their commitment to Wayne County, and I applaud Empire State Development, Rochester Gas & Electronic, the Wayne County Industrial Development Agency, and the other stakeholders for their investment in this terrific project. As State Senator, I will keep working to ensure that manufacturers such as IEC Electronics and other companies can do business and grow jobs in our region and in our state."
Assemblyman Brian Manktelow said, "This new state-of-the-art $22 million facility at Silver Hill Technology Park will allow IEC Electronics to continue to be one of Wayne County's major manufacturers. The new building is being designed from the ground up, making it extremely efficient and ready for future expansion and added employment in this advanced technology industry. I commend IEC for its commitment to Newark that has endured for nearly 50 years."
Newark Mayor Johnathan Taylor said, "It seems fitting in the year we are celebrating 200 years since the founding of our community, a company like IEC that has become a cornerstone to the Village of Newark and the surrounding area, is breaking ground on this new state-of-the art facility. RG&E and NYSEG remain committed to offering a host of economic development programs that not only support a strong and healthy economy but also spark ongoing efforts to turn our communities into attractive places for families to live, work and play. We congratulate IEC Electronics and wish the company continued success."
