Indium Corporation, Libra Industries and STI Electronics Pledge Support for Stromberg Scholarship
October 29, 2019 | SMTAEstimated reading time: 1 minute
SMTA and the JoAnn Stromberg Leadership Scholarship recently received a five-year commitment of support from Indium Corporation, Libra Industries, and STI Electronics. Rod Howell, CEO of Libra Industries, moved the scholarship even further, pledging an additional five-year commitment. Donations made over the next five years will enable funding for 10 recipients.
“I am privileged to have worked with JoAnn for over 20 years,” said Greg Evans, CEO of Indium Corporation and a past President of SMTA. “I can think of no better way to honor her years of service with the SMTA than with this scholarship that supports and promotes this organization that she has worked so hard to build.”
“STI Electronics is thrilled with the opportunity to support this scholarship for multiple reasons,” said David Raby, President & CEO of STI Electronics and a former SMTA President. “It provides education money to a well deserving person at a time that our industry is looking for good new people. It furthers the mission of the SMTA by helping provide education and also industry access to the recipient. And it also honors JoAnn Stromberg who, prior to her work as the SMTA’s Executive Director through the association’s most formative years, was a teacher and always passionate about the value of education.”
The initial support that sustained the fund for the first three years came primarily from several association chapters whose leadership teams had conceived and helped develop the scholarship in 2016.
The $3000 JoAnn Stromberg Student Leadership Scholarship, honoring former Executive Administrator, JoAnn Stromberg, for her nearly 30 years of service, was established following her retirement in 2015. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage students to take on more leadership opportunities and strengthen the connection between students and the electronics industry. The scholarship is awarded annually to a full-time student pursuing a degree in electronics and actively involved in the SMTA. The nomination period will be available early next year for 2020 candidates.
“We are extremely grateful for the continuous generosity displayed by these organizations,” remarked SMTA Membership Engagement Manager, Tamara Shephard.
If you would like to join Indium Corporation, Libra Industries, and STI Electronics in their commitment to education and leadership, additional donations can be made to the Stromberg Scholarship by visiting https://www.smta.org/scholarship/.
